New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman hired a prosecutor to investigate public corruption, including Donald Trump’s scandals. Howard Master will take on this role, which signals big trouble for the Trump administration.
Master is a former prosecutor who worked for former Federal Prosecutor Preet Bharara. Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired Bharara, along with 46 other federal prosecutors, from his post.
Schneiderman hired Master to focus his investigations on public corruption cases, including those involving President Trump and his family. Eric Soufer, a spokesman for Schneiderman, confirmed the hire.
“[He] will be working on a wide range of civil and criminal investigations and enforcement matters, including public corruption [and] complex civil litigation,” Soufer said.
He will have quite a bit of investigating to do if he continues with some of Bharara’s work. For example, Bharara hinted that Sessions fired him because of an investigation of Trump.
Let’s see, what reasons could a federal prosecutor have to investigate Trump? Perhaps it could be his violations of the Constitution while president.
And there are many constitutional violations, as former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich explicitly detailed in an article. They include violations of the First Amendment’s guarantee of Freedom of Religion and Freedom of the Press.
Trump’s ban on immigration from Muslim countries smacks directly at their religious freedom while his terming the press as “an enemy of the people” and engaging in “fake news” endanger this precious freedom.
Perhaps it was Trump’s egregious violation of the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution that prohibits a president from accepting gifts or influence from a foreign power. Trump’s pressuring visiting diplomats to stay in Trump hotels is one of the many violations of the Constitution.
There are so many issues that could trigger an investigation of Donald Trump, his family, and their business empire. In New York City itself, Trump’s failure to pay contractors to work completed is a violation of National Labor Relations Board policy. Again, one of many issues.
This is not the first time that Attorney General Schneiderman challenged Trump. He filed a fraud lawsuit in 2013 against Trump University.
After students complained that they received no real instruction and paid $35,000 or more for nothing, Trump settled the lawsuit, But, in Trump fashion, he did profit from the settlement.
Schneiderman also joined other attorneys general to challenge Trump’s second ban on Muslim immigration.
“President Trump’s latest executive order is a Muslim ban by another name, imposing policies and protocols that once again violate the Equal Protection Clause and Establishment Clause of the United State Constitution,” The New York AG said.
Well, the Attorney Generals won legal challenges to both immigration bans and will continue to be a thorn in the side of Donald Trump. We should find it refreshing that these AGs watch Trump and his administration and keep them in line since Congress will not.
Without a doubt, Master’s investigations will find many corrupt actions by Donald Trump. When they do, the American people need to demand that Congress impeach Trump for this corruption.
