Leeds United sit at the top of the Championship as the decade comes to a close, however, how have the Whites fared at the end of the last few decades? Well, taking a look at the league table in the divisions Leeds have played in the final year of the last four decades, the Yorkshire outfit have been top of the pile each year. In 1989, the club, then managed by Howard Wilkinson, sat top of the old Second Division as the 1980s drew to a close. It was a different story as the 1990s drew to a close with David O’Leary’s side sitting top of the pile in the Premier League. A few relegations saw the Elland Road outfit drop down to League One, however, as the 2000s drew to a close Leeds were top of the pile in the third-tier of English football. Some fans were left stunned by the statistic as the supporters took to Twitter to react to the club’s end to each of the last four decades. Here is a selection of tweets from the Yorkshire faithful: If only the years & decades ended on 31 May! #lufc — John #GetPromotionDone (@John62747999) December 30, 2019 2029 top of EPL table… U best believe mate. — Kingsley Chika (@Kingsleychika17) December 30, 2019 Crazy stat!!! — Matt Robinson (@mattlufc13) December 30, 2019 Crazy stat!
