Digital Journal #6
In our Rules for Writers Handbook, Hacker and Sommers (the authors) write the difference between summation and analysis is the “a summary often answers the question of what a text says, whereas an analysis looks at how a text conveys its main idea or message” (86).
This digital journal prompt is pretty straight-forward. Please do the following:
Identify an “item” of communication that you may want to analyze. (Notice I write “may.” You will not be beholden to this item.) Share this item in your blog (if you can).
Start to consider how the item is built. What is the whole and what are its parts? How does it work? (Considering its purpose, audience, and occasion will be helpful.)
Who is the audience of this “item” of communication?
This journal response is due before our class time on Wednesday, September 26.
