Salaspin was a British product meant to replace the German-made Bayer aspirin during WWI. The main ingredient in each was the same, but Bayer owned the trademark on "aspirin" (as well as the trademark on "heroin"). Bayer was forced to give up both trademarks as part of the Treaty of Versailles in 1919.
