Kurt shudders and his face flushes even deeper than moments before. His breaths are steady and smooth, but you can feel his fur bristle slightly at your touch. Not in any threatening or defensive way, just a reaction. His tail coils in on itself beside him and his toes ball into a fist momentarily.
“That.. Feels nice.” that statement surprises him enough in his head, saying out loud takes a moment. Normally people even staring at his scars puts him on edge. But there’s an amount of trust with Logan. There always has been.

“Who is it that you see? Instead of seeing what I am for real, this twisted flesh and bone! If I were senseless, I’d prefer it. Another gargoyle on this turret, spitting rain down to the stones below!” Kurt cried out, fists clenched around a bloody rosary. Nobody knows why he ran off, but everyone knows he’ll usually go to a church like this one.

Never in his life did he think he would be in this situation. He’s seen movies where people stow away on ships but it usually ends up with them saving the day or becoming captain or something adventurous. This isn’t adventure. This is fear and paranoia, jumping at any creak of the boat that doesn’t feel right. Hiding when someone comes down into the hold. Trembling in the cold wet dark. Stealing food and becoming almost a myth aboard the ship. People smell brimstone or notice food has gone missing or clothes and they assume it’s a ghost. As long as they don’t come looking for him, he’s fine with this.
Kurt Wagner used to be someone. He had a family, friends, a title. The Incredible Nightcrawler. He even had fans. But while all good things must come to an end, he sometimes wonders if he’s only ever allowed brief interludes of happiness. His life didn’t exactly start off on a positive note, it only made sense he’d be locked in a cage again. In a way, he’s locked himself away once more. This time is just in the nooks and crannies of a fishing boat. He’s not sure how long he’s been at sea, but he’s not entirely sure how long they had him in that cage either.
He doesn’t want to think about it, but he has little to contemplate on a day to day basis. All he has to do is make sure his cries are silent enough as to not draw unwanted attention.
Today the boat is relatively still while the sailors sell their wares and restock what they need for their next venture. Some of the workers are let go or leave, so they’re looking for more people. They don’t mention the ghost that rests in the underbelly of the ship, could scare perfectly good workers away.
