How my Summer went up in Flames by Jennifer Salvato Doktorski

BEWARE OF SPOILERS— BIG TIME.
"How my Summer Went up in Flames" was a very interesting book. Since the first moment, I was captivated because the blurb was just so…interesting.
So the main character Rosie has just been served with a restraining order against her ex because he’s a cheating asshole. She decided to burn all the stuff that reminded her of him right in front of his house, the fire got out of control and it resulted in his car blowing up…..so now she’s in big trouble. Her friend/ almost brother Matty who’s also her neighbor asks her to go on a roadtrip and she does it. So now she’s stuck with 3 guys, Matty, Spence and Logan.
Rosie is a cool chick. I liked her character, although at the beginning it kind of angered me how desperate she was to fix things with Joey. I mean, girlfriend, have a bit of dignity and don’t even think about his cheating ass. Ugh.
Matty….Matty is such a sweetheart! He’s always trying to be the “older" younger brother that Rosie needs by looking out for her. He totally has a crush on her and it’s super obvious but Rosie kind of gets caught up in other things…or should i say other people!
Spence is the epitome of the trendy dorky nerdy guy who’s just undeniably adorable. I loved him! He’s the peace maker of the group and is always trying to smooth things over with the disputes that arise.
Logan…God. Logan is such an asshole sometimes but it’s just because of the history with his family. He’s very protective of those he cares about and wants to keep them safe. The fact that he made the whole trip partly because he wanted to go see this girl he hooked up with in Texas didn’t really set the right vibe for Rosie and her romantic feelings for him.
Oh on another hand….ROSIE! wtf! Okay, so she starts the road trip liking Logan…then she changes her mind and has that encounter with Lucca the cute horse riding guy, then she changes her mind again and kisses Spence….and she realizes things would never work out and tries her hand at Matty, leading him on and then finally she realizes she likes Logan but by the time that clicks she’s already back home and he’s in school….then they meet all of the sudden while she’s doing community service and THAT’S IT?!
Ugh. It was very anti climatic! there was no build up, or sort of notice that Logan was who she was going to end up with, the guy choice changed a lot. Rosie didn’t even know what she wanted and when she realized a paragraph later the book ended so I was like…ummm..what?!
I would give this book 3.5 stars out of 5. I loved it, it had a good theme and the author had great writing style but the ending left me wanting so much more than just a kiss and them running to build houses together with no romance or promise of their relationship. D:
