Stop Using Alcohol Based Gels To Define Your Curls And Make Your Very Own Flaxseed Gel!  Afro- textured hair is the driest of all hair types and more fragile, which can lead to breakage if not properly given adequate amounts of moisture. When you choose to use hair products that contain ingredients like: propanol, propyl alcohol, ethanol, SF alcohol, SD 40 isopropyl alcohol, and alcohol denat you are running the risk of intensifying the dryness of your hair, sucking the moisture right out of your tresses. These alcohol enriched product will most likely leave your hair hard, brittle, overly dry, and extremely hard to manipulate.  Alcohol based hair products cause your hair to become frizzy once it dries because the cuticle of the hair has been disturbed and roughened by the lack of moisture. If you want to define your curls without using harsh alcohols try making flaxseed gel. Flaxseed gel will naturally make your curls pop without being left with crunchy or stiff.  To make flaxseed gel simply soak your flaxseeds over night in a medium size bowl. In the morning add your flaxseeds to a pan of spring water on the highest temperature to bowl your flaxseeds. Reduce the temperature to the medium setting and stir or whisk your flaxseed until the mixture has turned into a thin runny jelly substance. Once the flaxseeds have dissolved into the jelly or gel carefully empty the contents into a heat resistance bowl. Add in aloe vera whole leaf gel and oils like coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil or any other oil you desire. Store your flaxseed gel in the refrigerator for a couple of hours so that it may cool down. After you use the gel make sure to store it in the refrigerator to extend its shelf life. Section your hair off in 4 sections and apply your flaxseed gel. Use the shingling method with your finger and a Denman brush to create the curl shape and size you desire. Flaxseed gel will also help to define braid outs, bantu knot outs, and twist outs.
