I can’t remember one summer in Beijing without watermelon. Long before air conditioning was available, it helped people cool down and survive the unbearable heat. When I was little, I thought grandma has superpowers because she could tell if a melon is ripe or not by tapping on it. Later she told me the secrets of choosing ripe and sweet watermelon: Tapping on it and listening to the sound: If you hear a crisp “peng peng” then the watermelon is ripe. If you hear a heavy “dang dang”, then it’s not ready. You can also look at the color, the stripes and the stem of watermelon to see if it's in good condition. I never forgot her words, and there are many other tips and tricks like this that I’ve learned from elder generations. Living abroad, I find myself still using them in my everyday life. They are not profound knowledge but rather everyday wisdom coming from observation, experience, and attention to the details of life. 🍉🍉🍉 #everydaytips #watermelon #howtopickwatermelon #grandmasays #everydaywisdom #sliceoflife #chineselife #tinyeyescomics https://www.instagram.com/p/CC58_WoiBsN/?igshid=2n7t8595ljse
