So whilst chatting with Alex Price and telling him how he just keeps getting better (at his Malfoy feels) and I mentioned how every time his voice breaks as he talks about Astoria, it just rips through my heart. He then held my arm for 2 seconds and I couldn’t breathe.
So I’ve mentioned this a couple of times now, but this was definitely one of my most enjoyable performance to watch. There was a lot of improvisations of how lines were said and how certain scenes were played out. It felt like a lot of the actors were trying out new things. Special mentions to Paul Thornley (Ron) and Alex Price (Draco) because I don’t think I’ve laughed or cried so much whilst watching this play.
I sat in Stalls F row again. This time to the left of the stage which I don’t usually end up, so it was very nice to see it from a different angle.
A couple of covers for this performance. We had Stuart Ramsay as our Harry! And Adam McNara as Sorting Hat/Hagrid. I wondered if the cast were trying new things since they had a different Harry for a full week (across 2 weekends). If so, then I’d say to keep it up even after Jamie comes back on cause it was brilliant!
CC spoilers under the cut, I’ll be writing according to cast since I can’t think chronologically at the moment….Are you ready?! (Albus voice)
- Anthony played a slightly different Scorpius. I have flailed about this to a couple of people cause it was so exciting! He’s one of the cast that I’ve had a clean streak of seeing on stage so it was really refreshing. Mostly through his tone of voice, it was crisp and more articulated. He didn’t have his usually raspy voice except for the shouting scenes (i.e. HELPPP). He was a lot quieter and calmer during the less intense scenes too, almost like a more posh and subdued Scorpius. And there was less fidgeting and not much of his iconic pulling hair back behind his ear.
- BUT THE MOST ICONIC SCENE! When Myrtle says ‘I do live brave boys’ she usually lifts her left leg and rests in on the top of the sink, as if preventing Scorpius to go down the sink after Albus. Scorpius then imitates the exact same movement with his right skinny little leg dangling and it was incredible! I’ve never seen Anthony do this and I whooped too loud I think.
- Whilst in Godric’s Hollow, after Scorpius finally understands Albus’s plan of using Demiguise, they both actually link their hands together and skipped for a good few seconds! I nearly died ok. All those fluffy Scorbus feels. I can’t. Someone needs to draw this pleaseeee.
- Can I just say how I can’t handle Alex in this performance. He cried so much in this performance, particularly when he talks about Astoria. I’ve seen Alex being emotional with his voice breaking but never THIS EMOTIONAL. I was in tears! He keeps getting better each time! I reckon if Jamie was on, there’d be a crying fest on stage.
- He was also the most hilarious! He tried so many different voices with his lines it was insane. e.g. he said the lines ‘I’m being bossed around by Hermoine Granger’ in his high pitched ‘my scar is hurting!’ and it was so funny (Scorpius was suitably scandalised)! He also did the most impressive twirling after Ron’s zapping line, I’m surprised he didn’t fall.
- PAUL KNEELS DOWN ON HIS KNEES WHEN HE DELIVERS THE MARRIAGE RENEWAL LINES! Think about that and imagine it.
- Also after Scorpius tells Hermione and Ron that they’re both married during the Voldy World AU, Paul does a 2 thumbs up at Hermione - it was so spontaneous that Noma giggled a bit before saying her line.
- I’ve never noticed this cause I’m always focused on the boys, but after returning from the 1st task and Ron sees team, Ron is already dressed up in his ‘Padma/Panju’ look with his old fashioned clothes and 7:3 hair parting.
- In St Jeromes, right after Albus climbs through the the hole and throws the spare wand at Harry (before the others come out), they actually share a hug whilst Harry attacks Delphi (I don’t think I’ve ever seen Jamie do this, I could be wrong?) but it was such a sudden hug and it made my heart melt for these two. You could clearly see how much Harry loved his son and vice versa - to still focus on the safety of Albus even in the face of danger.
- I was really disappointed when I found out Annabel was reprising her role as Myrtle since I’ve heard such great stories about her Delphi. BUT I was completely taken by Esther; I’ve never seen her play such a vicious Dephi, full of face grabbing and slapping. Poor baby Albus being abused, Sam looked so shocked in one of the face grabbing scenes. She also pushed him to the ground whilst torturing Scorpius. And Esther was so natural in this show! I’ve found previously that she sometimes sounded very forced but it was incredible that day. I honestly felt a chill when she said her lines - alternating between pretentiously sweet and psychopath.

When Scorpius runs towards his dad when Draco says ‘We can hug too if you like’, he very nearly tackles him to the floor. You can see Draco losing his balance and almost toppling over. Scorpius hangs on to Draco for so long to the point the audiences were laughing a second round. Draco had to literally pry him off (twice!) and after that scene they both shared a little secret smile (in my previous visits, Scorpius usually lets go on his own but stays close to Draco). There were certainly no father-son issues in this scene! It was amazing! Made me cry a little. Draco ruffles his son’s hair soon after and you could see Scorpius just melting towards that gesture. Anthony is a complete ball of energy and knows no chill! And this scene completely shows what amazing chemistry Alex and Anthony share whilst playing father and son.
I later found out at stage door that it was Anthony’s first day back from being away. Which explains extra hyped Scorpius that was delightful to watch! It was also my 3rd time meeting Alex at stage door (he doesn’t come out as often) and I probably squealed a bit too much.
I’ve always wanted to write all about my experiences from Cursed Child but I don’t trust my writing to fully justify how amazing this play is. So I sat in an incredible seat (Stalls F10/11) and brought my sister with me who was visiting London. The seat’s view was amazing (I’ve sat in F Row twice now and its one of my favourite). Its close enough for you to make out the little details like the cast’s expressions, and just far enough from stage that you get an overall view of the whole stage which is also important.
- Sunday’s show was very intense! Most of the main casts were on which was incredible for me. All the actors were really top game throughout the whole performance. Harry was so emotional and so was Scorpius (more about it later). Ginny was near tears most of her scenes in Part 2. And even Draco poured his heart out when talking about Astoria.
- I realised Jamie had a haircut this time around and couldn’t recognise him for a split second. His hair was not quite messy!Harry and he looked loads younger.
- During Harry’s nightmares, he screamed so much! Even more than usual and it was heart-wrenching. It was even an octave higher in the nightmare where he sees Albus in Durmstrang robes. After he puts out his lumos, his wand hand was still shaking. Throughout the whole performance he kept having to clear his throat, I worry about Jamie’s vocal cords. I really do.
- Jamie as polyjuiced!Scorpius is always my fav. His mannerism is so Scorpius that it’s incredible. All the jumping and high pitched voice and flailing - I love this man.
- Have I mentioned how much I love it when Scorpius always tries to push his hair back behind his ear? It most likely to keep the wig in place but its become such a Scorpius gesture, like he always needs to do that to either calm himself down or when he’s having to do something incredibly brave like confront his boyfriend ahem.
- Düring Draco’s iconic ‘is that a farmers market?’, Alex went right at it and literally shouted across the stage (like a holler). The times I’ve seen him before, he either just raises his voice a little or deadpans it out. So during Sunday’s performance, it was hilarious cause the crowd laughed for so long and Alex couldn’t stop giggling (even Jamie kept grinning). He had to put his hand up to calm himself before continuing.
- When Draco says he is mildly enjoying being bossed by Hermoine, I focussed more on Scorpius this time and he was SO scandalised. He even pointed out the door to get him out so his dad won’t embarass him anymore.
- Scorbus is real guys. So is the famous Nosebop (which sadly only happened once)! And honestly these two are so in love its not even funny. After Part 1, my sister whos not read the script and previously not had much interest in scorbus actually asked me if they were meant to be gay (as canon). Easy question, easy answer –> YES! hehe
- The library scene which I mentioned previously was so emotional! Anthony usually just goes on a loud angry rant about Albus being a terrible friend but today the scene became so much more intense that he had to stop briefly and collect himself. He then says his ‘ýou’re a terrible friend’ so softly and with so much pain in his voice. Almost as if he couldn’t bear to even say the words out. And after McGonagall exits the scene, Scorpius usually looks away in anger until Albus apologises but during this show, he kept his gazed locked onto Albus and looked so lost without his boyfriend. It was a beautiful.
- Right in the last scene, Harry tries so hard to reach out to Albus. There were a lot of pauses and quivering voices. It really felt like the audience were just sitting at the edges of their seats waiting for either Harry or Albus to breakdown from sheer emotional pressure. You could tell that all Harry wanted was to let albus know how much he loves him (specifically loves him).
Standing ovation all around as usual. There were hardly any people at stagedoor due to the rain but nothing that would deter this fangirl. Martin Johnson that was acting Amos/Dumbledore also wished my Happy Chinese Near Year which made me really happy.

@bearofstarlight Martin is brilliant as Dumbledore. Yes, he certainly plays him in a more soft spoken manner which makes the scene in Harry's office even more heart breaking 😭
