Literally right after I commented on your post, I looked it up and found an old wordpress post about it. It says, "It sends the visitor to the link but hides the referrer (your website). This means you can link out from your private blog but other website owners won’t know where the visitors are coming from."
Oh no, I definitely understand what it is & what it’s trying to do. I also know it’s been blocked from Bitly & Twitter URLs because of how it’s been abused in the past by various malware campaigns.
I’m trying to figure out if Tumblr actually made this a permanent change to how they’re processing URLs on this site, and if they did so without any kind of announcement? (Or if I just missed the announcement?)
me: terrified abt the security risks that might be inherent in this sudden “href.li” that’s being added to every link I click from a tumblr post
