Huh. Just had a thought about the comic. Why can GUN just imprison minors? If Shadow is a minor, who is considered his guardian? Or do mobians have different legal emancipation rules? (I am in the weeds lol)

I don't think Shadow really has a guardian. I don't think G.U.N. even fully considers him a person in any sort of legal way. In Infested, at least, this is shown through what Sonic says here after Shadow gets his special handcuffs:

As you could probably guess from this portrayal of G.U.N., I don't find them all that heroic.

Okay so the brainwave i just had is this: mephinila(sp?) Is vaguely alice in wonderland esque, except it's mephiles that came out of vanilla's dreams, vanilla is a grown, well-adjusted adult, and probably involves some therapy tea-times for mephiles as he comes to grips with Not Existing and then Existing. And coping methods. Maybe Vanilla recommends some books to him and Mephiles has the sudden realization that he has never read a book and surely, these mortals wouldn't have anything interesting in there? And then he gets slammed with the mobian version of Pride and Prejudice...

My personal idea is that he is specifically brought back thanks to Sonic's memory of him that still exists. Sonic wouldn't be aware of that happening, it's just the thing that happens.
