Chapter 1: Moving In, Moving On
hello! I have been gone for a long, long time and I apologize. I was writing a story on Wattpad but my information was leaked on the dark so that was a huge no.
anyways, I wanted to write a story loosely based on New Girl because I binged that like crazy. Anyway, enjoy!

part 1/?
“Are you sure that this is okay?” I asked my best friend for almost ten years, Gemma, as I sat in the back of a cab. My phone pressed to my ear and my red, tired, and very swollen eyes, scanning the busy streets of New York. The neon colors now looking for dull.
“Yes, Charlie.” She said, her voice low and understanding. “Harry wouldn’t have said yes, unless he truly meant it. He’s on his way back now. Just walk in and go up to the fifth floor. He’s apartment 5-D.”
I nodded. Knowing that she couldn’t see me. I let out a sigh as the dark thoughts crowded my mind once more. I shook my head, trying to get rid of them.
“Hey, I can practically hear you thinking. Screw him. You were way too good for him and you’re so much better off.” She said in a tone that I knew meant not to argue with her.
“You’re right. I know you are.” I said after a few quiet heartbeats.
The cab came to a stop and I looked out the window at the giant loft building. My eyes widening, not at all what I was used to. I lived in a small, one-room apartment for the last three years. Half of my things were still back there.
“Hey Gem, I have to go. I just got to the loft. I’ll call you later.”
“You’ll call me tonight. Honeymoon or not, you’re my best friend and I’m here for you always, babe. Tell Harry hi for me and keep your head up. Love you!”
With that, she hung up not letting me respond. I pocketed my phone as I stepped out of the cab. The driver already opening the trunk for me and taking out my very few belongings.
I thanked him and paid him, telling him to keep the change, I grabbed my bags as he walked back into the cab. I looked up at where I would be staying for the unforeseeable future. With my best friend’s younger brother. He was older than me by a year but we never really spoke. We got along at Gemma’s wedding and a few times before that at birthday parties.
I let out a breath, knowing I couldn’t hold off any longer.
“You got this.” I mumbled under my breath.
I walked into the building and towards the elevator, pressing the button for the fifth floor. I walked towards the door that had ‘5-D’ in gold letters on it and took the emergency key I took from Gemma’s apartment. I unlocked the door and set the bags down next to it. Now knowing where I was going to sleep, yet.
I sat down on the L-shaped, gray couch and took another deep breath. The reality of my new life hitting me for the first time since everything happened. I closed my eyes as sat back, being truly alone for the first time in a long time.
Three days ago, I walked in on my boyfriend of five years, Matthew, cheating on me with a co-worker of his in our shared apartment. I was in shock as his eyes widened in horror and next thing I know, I was being dropped off at Gemma and her new husbands, Mike’s apartment. The day after their beautiful wedding ceremony, they were consoling their friend before they went on their honeymoon.
After a few glasses of wine, and a long sobbed-through story later, Gemma was furious and Mike being the good friend he was, was ready to kick Matthew’s ass. Once Gemma talked him down, she asked where I would live, and offered their apartment but, they were newly married and I’ve interrupted their new life enough.
Mike offered up Harry very spacious loft up. He lived there alone, now. He was his roommate before getting married to Gemma. Gemma called, and within minutes, the situation had been solved.
So, now, here I am. Alone, in a spacious, windowed loft. Head in my hands as I recount my world flipping upside down. I hadn’t cried since that night in Gemma’s apartment and I hoped I wouldn’t again, soon.
“Hey, you’re here early. Sorry to keep you waiting.”
I looked up as Harry walked in, closing the door with his foot. Paper grocery bags in his hands. He walked towards the kitchen and set them down on the island.
It took me awhile to respond. He was in a perfect-fitting navy blue suit. My mind drifts off. I shook it lightly and got up, walking towards where he started taking out the groceries. His brown curly hair, messy yet perfectly placed.
“Don’t apologize. I haven’t been here for more than five minutes.” I responded as I took a seat on the stool. “If anything, I should be thanking you. You saved me a headache.”
He took out more groceries and set them down on the island between us.
“No need. I just do what I expect others to do for me.” He responded with a warm smile. “Let me put these away, I’ll order some pizza for dinner and then, I’ll give you a tour of the place. You’ll take Mike’s old room. It has a great view over the park.”
Five minutes of putting the food away. He ordered us a pizza for dinner. We ate as we small talked about work and any other subject except for relationships. I was secretly grateful.
Once dinner was done, he showed me around the loft that took up half of the fifth floor. Not once, did I feel awkward around him and I put that off as being so close to his sister. My phone kept vibrating in my pocket as Matthew picked back up his calling and texting me. I was grateful for the whole 8 hours of him at work where they stopped but now, they picked up once we stepped into the study.
“And this is your room.” He said as he walked into the room across his own.
By now, the sun had set and the loft was illuminated by the soft glow of the overhead lighting.
“It’s a bit smaller than mine but the closet is bigger.” He said setting my bags down on the bed. His finger pointed at the gray sliding door behind him.
“Thank you, again. I know you told me not to thank you but, it means so much to me.”
“No problem.” He said as he walked towards the door. He leaned against the door frame and he tilted his head slightly towards me. “I know you’re going through a lot and I don’t want to bring it up. But judging from the million of texts I know you’re avoiding, it sucks to see that it took losing you for him to see what he lost.”
My mouth opened but before I could respond he smiled warmly and reached for the door.
“Goodnight, Charlie.”
My mouth hung open as he closed the door to my new room.
“Goodnight.” I mumbled, eyes locked on the door he had just walked out of.
What was that?
