small Obsidian plugin experiment

I made a small plugin for Obsidian that helps convert underscore-style Markdown formatting to HTML tags.

The plugin scans notes for patterns like _text_, *text*, or **text** and converts them into <i> and <b> HTML tags.

It can:

scan the current note or the entire vault

show a badge next to files that contain problematic formatting

generate a report with all affected notes

convert formatting directly from the file menu or report panel

It also skips fenced code blocks and inline code so code snippets aren’t modified accidentally.

I mostly built it because I sometimes need notes to use HTML formatting instead of Markdown and doing it manually across many files gets annoying.

Hello world! <- straight from the site

OKAY so apparently, each word in here is a different color. To make a gradient all I will need is to hm. Know the two end colors + ALL the intermediary colors. So let's try:

...okay, that's ALMOST right XD.

mistakes: inserted to Rs instead of one; somehow fucked up the last hex code real bad

ok so i just removed the second R and replaced it with the next letter, and then fixed the rest to make the word in the right order + deleted the last span code block. Oh wait i forgot the exclamation point

apparently when you want to change the color halfway through, you just start a whole new ass <span style> chain.

oh and the funky tumblr font is [edit: IT CUT IT OUT when i changed to html to check a thing shit]

ALSO i just found out you dont need to >text<</span> you can just '<' instead of '<<'

oh and when you put in those colors, add a space before the #HEXCOD

HTML Manually

ok so i. recently found you can change your post thingy to html which allows you to fuck with the text, so i thought it was cool and decided to try and learn how to manually do it. bc i thought it'd be fun.

(note: you can't acess the post's html on mobile. it needs to be on desktop 4 some reason.)

normal text: <p>normal text</p>

header: <h1>header<h1> (biggest) or <h2>header</h2> (big)

bold: <p><b>bold</b></p> | italic: <p><i>italic</i></p>

now. onto colors

We don't need to put things between <p></p> (or <h1></h1> and the like) now, because the html will automatically assume it's there and put it on its own for us. What we have to do is put in this little thing:

='color:#HEXCODE;'>text<

in between

so,

^so, what we are gonna do, written out, is to put in "then, we close our aposthrophe, and put in our text between "><" instead of "<>", because when they kiss is for commands. All that wrapped up, we close it with a "".

So, example:

I want to put the text "hello world!" in a hot pink hue in this post. What we would do is:

<span style='color:#FF0582;'>hello world!<</span>

Thus:

hello world!

[pt. "hello world!" in hot pink. /end pt.]

little notes:

if you want to put the colored text in bold, the <b></b> goes inside of the <p></p>

i'm gonna try and figure out how the fuck i put in the. a differently colored word in between the text. without fucking everything over

maybe id like to like. figure out the gradient thingy but that would be a really long thing to learn so eventually we get there

i also want to figure how to mess up with google's own html bc it'd be nice i think
