Hello! Do you have any tips on worldbuilding for writing? I’m currently working on a story and I’ve been following HUGirl at the same time, so I thought it’d be cool to hear some of your techniques! :)
omg you honestly came to the wrong person hahaha
the thing is that this is the third time I'm drawing HUGirl. I had multiple attempts and the story changed every time. I am still changing stuff on the go sometimes just for the sake of being more interesting XD
There are different ways to building your world. But honestly it's not something you can just sit down and work on instantly. It took me literal years to settle on one particular world.
It depends from the characters, actually. I will put HUGirl as an example.
Here's Diana. I always drew her in a doctor cape, so, of course, I imagined her to be a scientist.
This already gives me information important for the world building. If Diana is a scientist, she needs a fitting surrounding/a work aka labs, experiments, academics, etc. Everything you can imagine a professor/scientist to do or smth ahha
On the other hand, I also wanted magic to be in the world and Diana having something to do with it/being influenced by it. So I made her experiment with magic. But the question is - how do I connect all the science stuff with magic?
I imagined science being something very advanced and futuristic, so, of course, the first thing in my mind was technology. Futuristic science fiction hello XD. But well, I still need to connect it to magic. So I need to ask myself some questions.
What kind of magic? Where did it come from? How do technology and magic influence one another, since it's two completely different concepts? And how does in influence the main characters and the plot?
The influence goes from both sides, of course. Since I created the characters BEFORE building the world, they were connected by relationships from very start. So I needed to have it in mind while creating a world around them, so that the world itself doesn't change what the characters should be like.
I hope it's not too complicated XD
1. The way you build your world depends on your characters. What is their story? Where would it make the most sense?
2. How do you connect the characters and the world? How do they interfere and influence one another?
of course, there is much more to the world I've built around HUGirl that I can't reveal yet. It includes Diana's traumatic past, where I have an opportunity to explain the world more. Because of it, I can explain more about Diana and how that world influenced her and vice versa. I have a separate story about Adelaide/F-701, where I can explain where the magic came from and how it connects to the world, that helps me explain the importance of this character. They are supposed to compliment each other.
If it wasn't clear, please forgive me :"D
