Humanity in Hugo
Hugo is a touching narrative encapsulating a look-back to the past as well as intriguing yet emotional character developments. In a lonely quest of recalibrating a machine left by his father, in search for answers he has since his death, Hugo – an orphan – struggles to keep up with the duties left by his uncle.
As he manages his day-to-day hustle, he crosses paths with a sweet girl whom he shares adventures with.
If there was one thing primarily relatable with the movie, it would be the struggles he faced. Maybe in this timeframe, his struggles aren’t the same, but nonetheless, it reflects the hustle and bustle each one of us has in our day-to-day lives.
The repetitive cycle of encountering problems and finding solutions to resolve it is a common theme found in the film. The presence of peculiar characters and how they live on with their lives shows how despite the different struggles we face, we are still human, and we can feel things.
The humanity found, despite the full-blown defining personalities of the characters of the movie has is one thing I find amazing about it. The flow of the film exemplifies the overcoming, not only of Hugo but as well as other characters in accepting their pasts and living on in the present.
