hulloween is a blur... scribbling a few moments i remember for posterity, i'm sure much has been/will be recorded elsewhere but yk......

we'd gotten together on a gift for the cast, so we took it to the theatre pre-dinner. walking to the stage door, we saw toby coming the other way and went "TOBY! :D" he looked confused but he was very nice to us lol and we explained we were bringing a gift. later he posted a thank you + photo of it on his instagram and i will treasure that forever 😖💕 what a sweetie move. also complimented our costumes! everyone's costumes were soooo good, i was dressed as hugo 🙂‍↕️

then we walked to the place for dinner and umm. i came in and saw @ivegotchickenstofeed already there wearing his ollie jumper, so i loudly declared "hey, it's ollie plimsolls!" and sat down and we all settled in. and then a few minutes later someone told me that some of the cast, including reece, had been sat just a couple tables away the whole time + had only just left. 🫠🫠🫠 reece i am SO sorry i swear i didn't see you

when we were leaving the restaurant a stranger (middle-aged man with his wife) stopped me to ask if i was dressed "as reece" from the show and i was like yeeaaaah i am!!! 🥹🥹🥹 some people at the theatre complimented the costume too, including a woman who said she hadn't seen the show before and i was like aahh you'll see him soon >:3c

there was at least one cameraperson roaming the theatre?? for the eventual dvd bonus features presumably??? paused to film us in our costumes and i awkwardly extended hugo's pointer thing at him :-)

the show.... augh no words. i had a wonderful seat thanks to @wintersoulwitch and got to sit w them which was an honour, our respective 18th times, 9+9+9+9 😭 so spoiled. the hometown audience were beautiful and adoring. reece opened the address with "happy hulloween!" and then at the first curtain call steve was like "thank you for coming here tonight... on halloween... reece's favourite night 😢" and "final round of applause for hull's own reece shearsmith" like i'm genuinely still getting choked up about it

from where we were sitting we could see that someone had written "REECE YOU WILL DIE NEXT" inside the funeral order of service during bcdr 💀 and he didn't miss a beat when he opened it!!

ALL-TIMER CHARACTER BREAK 😣😣 after hugging reece + pulling back, steve said "sorry" quite clearly, as if he was actually successfully starting to pull himself together. and then he started delivering the hamlet quite smoothly + confidently, as if he actually meant to say it, rather than the sort of broken/quiet/choked-up delivery he more normally goes for. but then it broke off and he had to take a second try and AUGHHHHH LOVED ITTTT 😩😩 i've said this before but god. the way he's reaching for theatre as a way to connect with reece in that moment. and openly regretting how dismissive he was about reece's beliefs when he was alive. okaaayyy

speaking of steve, frankly, and briefly. he continues to look fatter every week. it's really noticeable now, in some costumes more than others. 🩷🩷🥹🩷🩷 walked past him on the way to the train station, actually our eyes met across the street while we were waiting to cross in opposite directions; i looked away & gave him a wide berth but like. just so happy to have seen him in the wild tbh.

i'm leaving out most of my soft feelings & personal incidents / individual shout-outs here, suffice to say that as exciting as the show was, it really does take second place to hanging out with my beautiful kind friends, who took really good care of me the whole time, and are universally the sweetest and best. @kookaburrito was present in the form of some incredible gifts and mine almost made me cry, i will probably have to make a separate post about that because it's too 😖🩷 some people i got to meet in person for the first time and they were all wonderful!! @suege2333 distributed some more beautiful artwork including her s/f piece which i am obsessed with. many people weren't there in person & i missed them v much, but even better times are ahead 🥰 i'm a very lucky girl 🥰
