The mass of men serve the State thus, not as men mainly, but as machines, with their bodies. They are the standing army, and the militia, jailers, constables, posse comitatus, etc. In most cases there is no free exercise whatever of the judgment or of the moral sense; but they put themselves on a level with wood and earth and stones; and wooden men can perhaps be manufactured that will serve the purpose as well. Such command no more respect than men of straw, or a lump of dirt. They have the same sort of worth only as horses and dogs. Yet such as these even are commonly esteemed good citizens. Others, as most legislators, politicians, lawyers, ministers, and officeholders, serve the State chiefly with their heads; and, as they rarely make any moral distinctions, they are as likely to serve the devil, without intending it, as God. A very few, as heroes, patriots, martyrs, reformers in the great sense, and men, serve the State with their consciences also, and so necessarily resist it for the most part; and they are commonly treated by it as enemies. A wise man will only be useful as a man, and will not submit to be “clay,” and “stop a hole to keep the wind away,” but leave that office to his dust at least:—     "I am too high-born to be propertied,     To be a secondary at control,     Or useful serving-man and instrument     To any sovereign state throughout the world."

以人類學觀點參與藝術創作：Human AlieNation當代藝術展 Day2   2016.08.04

當天晚上 碰巧是《Human AlieNation》的開幕酒會，在適芳的朋友極力推薦下，沒有特別安排行程的我們前往The Art Centre of Silpakorn University 觀展。

The fields of art and anthropology, share one fundamental commonality: their ability to reflect situations and movements that are currently occurring in society.

摘自非常迷人的策展論述，可以看見人類學近年逐漸被重視，與各種領域碰撞所發出的火花。精裝的展覽手冊也令人驚豔！內附一張投影片印製的展場地圖，可以單獨抽出手冊極具巧思。可惜的是作品旁都沒有說明牌，必須仰賴展覽手冊。

展覽由Silpakorn University(全泰國最好的藝術大學)與Thammasat University泰國法政大學的社會與人類學院共同策劃。兩間學校其實相近不遠，都位於舊城區但近年 Silpakorn University 遷校搬至曼谷郊區，只剩幾個學院與 Art Centre 留在原地。 Art Centre 對面就是著名觀光景點大皇宮(Grand Palace)，在古色古香的建築裡觀看當代藝術作品，時間仿佛不存在，藝術彷彿就是永恆。
