Human!Calliope I've been trying to draw for a while now but I just can't get the scars right

Oh shit, Callie where are you sweetie?!

Before the V Tower collapse...

Vox’s neon grin glitched in and out of focus as he leaned over the trembling toddler.

Vox: *voice low, falsely sweet, his screen flickering with static hearts* Now, now, little static spark. Don’t cry. Your old man’s just… “busy”. I’m going to have some fun with him first. Then I’ll come back for you.

He reached out, brushing a single claw along her cheek before stepping back toward the door.

Vox: *smirking* Be a good girl and stay right there. Wouldn’t want you to cry or anything.

The heavy metal door sealed shut behind him with a hiss. The light vanished, leaving only the hum of the massive aquarium that made up the room’s back wall. A robotic shark drifted lazily inside, its crimson sensors glowing faintly in the dark water as it circled.

Calliope: *sniffling, voice tiny and scared* Ba…ba…?

No reply. No static, no hum, no warm voice on the radio. Only the distant echo of machinery and her own frightened heartbeat.

Then came the explosions—faint at first, then closer. Metal groaned and glass trembled. The shark froze in the tank, mechanical fins twitching.

Calliope: *screams* Baba!

She sobbed until her tiny chest ached. Then—something changed. The air grew warmer. The dark began to move, rippling like water. The shadows around her crib reached out, curling softly around her fingers.*

Calliope: *hiccups, whispering* Baba…?

When the darkness cleared, the air smelled different. Damp. Heavy. Alive.

Calliope starts to wake up, blinking. The ground beneath her wasn’t metal anymore. It was soft and cold — like wet grass and mud. The shadows that had wrapped around her were gone.

Her breath came in small, shaky hiccups. The world around her chirped and buzzed — frogs, crickets, something splashing far away. The sky above was gray. She didn’t know where she was.

Calliope: *tiny voice, scared* …Baba?

No answer. Only wind.

She tried to stand, but her legs wobbled and she fell to her knees in the mud. Tears welled again. Her blue dress was now just a faded and dirty form the mud. She didn’t notice that her skin looked different too — pale, but not the stark white it had been before ; no faint glow, no red circles on her cheeks.

She looked human.

Calliope’s lip trembled as she looked around, lost.

Then — a bark. Loud and startling.

She froze. She’d never heard that type of noise before.

From behind a patch of reeds, a large brown hunting dog bounded into view, panting heavily. It stopped a few feet away, sniffing the air, tail wagging uncertainly before it barked again — this time louder.

Calliope: *whimpering and covers her ears as the dog was loud*

A voice shouted in the distance. A man’s voice — deep, confused, worried.

???: Hank! What’d you find, boy?!

Calliope stumbled back a step, falling against a tree root that was lifted off the ground.

Soon a tall man, dressed in hunting gear, approached. He had a rifle slung over his shoulder. His boots splashed through the swamp water before he froze mid-step.

Hunter: Jesus… a kid?!

He crouched quickly, setting his gun aside and raising both hands.

Hunter: Hey there, sweetheart… hey, it’s okay. You lost?

Calliope blinked at him — big brown eyes wide, confused. She didn’t understand half the words, only the soft tone.

Calliope: *mumbling, barely a whisper* Baba…

Hunter: Baba? That your daddy? *looks around the marshland — empty, silent except for birds and bugs* Ain’t nobody out here… *turns to the toddler* How the hell’d you get this far, little one?

He reached for her gently, wrapping his jacket around her small shoulders. She didn’t resist, just stared up at him with wet, muddy cheeks, eyes heavy with exhaustion.

Hunter: *quietly, to himself* You’re lucky my dog found ya…

He picked her up, careful not to jostle her too much. The girl was freezing, mud smeared on her knees and fingers.

Hunter: Hang in there, kiddo. We’ll get you warmed up. *carries her out of the bayou*
