Broken Promise in the broken world
Promises are often broken because humans are flawed, limited, and driven by self-interest. People change, circumstances shift, and sometimes, promises are made with good intentions but without the power to keep them.
Why Do Promises Get Broken?
Weakness & Limitations – People overpromise without realizing they can’t actually fulfill them.
Selfishness & Deception – Some make promises just to gain trust or manipulate others.
Circumstances Change – Even well-meaning promises can become impossible to keep.
Forgetfulness & Indifference – Some just stop caring or prioritize something else.
What Can We Truly Rely On?
👉 Only God’s Promises Are Unchanging. Unlike humans, God is faithful, sovereign, and all-powerful. When He makes a promise, He doesn’t forget, change His mind, or fail.
"God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should change His mind. Does He speak and then not act? Does He promise and not fulfill?" – Numbers 23:19
So, what can we be assured of? 🔹 God’s love never fails. (Romans 8:38-39) 🔹 He will never leave us. (Hebrews 13:5) 🔹 Justice will come, even if it seems delayed. (Isaiah 30:18) 🔹 Eternal life is secured for those who believe in Him. (John 3:16)
How Do We Live Knowing Humans Will Fail Us?
Be discerning – Trust people, but don’t be naive.
Forgive, but don’t be blind – Learn from broken promises without letting bitterness consume you.
Anchor your hope in God, not people. Even the best humans will fail, but God won’t.
In a world full of broken promises, only God is our true assurance.
