this poor girl....
The first 5 photos are from her ebay listing. I found her along my searches, stopped dead in my tracks by the real ‘photos of a murder victim taken with a disposable camera in the 90s’ vibe of her ebay photos. She looked so dirty, flat, sad... but if I took in every dirty/flat/sad plush I’d have 1 million. But I decided to +watch her every so-often, to see if her starting bid price or shipping would lower to something more reasonable for such a TLC case...
she relisted and relisted for a couple months, then suddenly stopped being relisted. But she was never marked as ‘sold’-- only ‘ended’. Sometimes sellers just give up trying to sell something after a few months, maybe to throw it into a flea booth or donate or box up in the attic. It made me so sad to think of her languishing longer than she already had [she’s from the 70s or so, too].... so, I sent the seller a message about relisting her just for me to adopt. They kindly lowered her shipping charge to something reasonable, and then she finally was safely mine. She was about $10.
As always she got a bath, and a few seams popped to ascertain her stuffing. While some people prefer to keep the original stuffing for authenticity, I’d REALLY rather fill things with a material that can handle getting a little wet without clumping and matting/flattening. I’d like to be able to wash things in case of emergency. And I would rather they look their best and freshest!
Oh the visual of pulling out her stuffing was so dramatic. “Ah god, she’s so sick... she’s sick...” my friend said next to me as I pulled out this hairball-looking material. It’s just scrap cotton-- a mixture of a bunch of various dyed cottons prolly from the cutting room floor of a plush making shop-- but it does look horrifying. Her poor little body...
New stuffing really brought her right back to life. It turned out she was made to stand in a sweet, playful ‘play-bow’ sort of pose, with her little back curved and her front legs splayed out. She’s SOOO pretty and precious, I had my friend make me a special shelf just for her to sit on. So glad I got her.. she’s very very special.
Her company is ‘Clare Creations’, who made a handful of slightly-different lambs with a pattern like this.
I’ve named her humile, after the plant Monopastrum Humile, which I think she resembles in spirit.
