There is no real reason for Jongin’s good mood and just thinking about it has made it turn sour. Happiness is an unfamiliar taste, makes his tongue jump to the roof of his mouth and feels like a ghost running down his windpipe.
The shadows help. They cool him off and hide him from the public eye. He knows if the shadows weren’t there he’d be sprinting around solving every problem that he sees or infers to exist.
Sometimes that sense of duty feels like an inextricable part of him. When it’s taken away, the phantom pain is hard to bear.
If given the choice, he chooses numbness.
But today is not that day - he cannot be numb when others need him to feel. And the needy are always there, resting beneath his eyelids and haunting every breath.
He finds the boy crying against the wall of a dark alleyway, face obscured because of his body’s slump. Jongin bends down slightly, offering an unseen smile to make up for the lack of feeling in his voice.
“What can I do?”
"The best way out is always through."
A smile immediately bloomed, teeth holding onto the cigarette as he let out a gentle laugh. “Ain’t that the truth?” He said as he pat Sehun’s back with a little too much force, but wrapped an arm around his shoulders as a form of apology. “No need to spend too much time debating on how to get around it. Face it head on, since you’ll need to deal with it eventually. Am I right, or am I right?” Chanyeol took a lazy drag on the cig, exhaling through his nose while passing the burning stick to his friend. “Though, you must be a little cautious. Approaching a problem like that may not always give you the results you want. But it’s the most noble pursuit of a solution. Hopefully the karma adds up.” It was unlike him to be so philosophical.
Drugs would often provoke out of the box ideas from him, never a sober moment, but there was something about Sehun that made him want to share every ounce of wisdom he had. Oddly reckless, yet all the more innocent in a way that made him protective. The brother he never had, would be an accurate way to depict his feelings for him. The hour was late, as it usually were whenever the two decided to wreak havoc together, and although his body yearned for some form of rest, Chanyeol pushed on for Sehun’s sake. Perhaps he may be kind enough to buy him another carton of Marlboros for spending some time with him. “Is anything bothering you? What made you say that, anyway?”

“A good kill is generally what I identify as a fun kill. There’s more of an orchestrated noise of violence: more bones cracking, more screams, and a more fearful victim with quite a bit of meat on ‘em. Don’t get me wrong, I do like the taste of human flesh and blood every so often, but I’m really in it for the sound of ripping. When I don’t take a bite out of the kill--which is more often than not, mind you--I suck out the soul and leave. Unless it was a task then I’d dispose of the carcass properly.”
