Saved by an owl!
Anyone who has stayed or stays in a hostel will agree that often the food is just not palatable and we need alternate sources. Late coming to the mess is also a major reason why a lot of us students go to sleep hungry, or learn how to cook, the basic stuffs at the very least. But, what to do when you wander in to the hostel from a night out on the town at about 2 am, and you are immensely hungry?
Let me tell about one of my such food fix conditions. On this particular day, within the group, the morale was down. Successive plans of going out had been cancelled and rescheduled indefinitely, assignments being thrown at us by the scores, deadlines approaching fast, even personal life was taking massive hits, in gist, life felt pretty bad. As a morale booster, the seven of us planned to hit a nearby pub. Since it was a Friday night, the pub was packed to the brim and we couldn’t find a spot to sit, so we grabbed our drinks and came out. A couple of beers down, we felt relaxed a bit, and a nearby McD seemed to be the place which would satiate our burning hunger. But, then, that was not to be. We reached the spot at 11:15, just to see them close down their counters. That definitely felt like an omen that this night, we would go to sleep hungry. Sad, dejected and with grumbling stomachs , we hiked a 3 kms route back to the college. We had the permissions for the night out, hence, no rush to get back in, even for the girls, we sat in the volleyball court for sometime. This was 2:30 am. Hunger was so evident, we could actually hear our stomachs grumble and were making fun about how hungry we were. They say, when you are stuck with the current idea, the only way out is to think out of the box. That’s when, fuelled by the immense hunger, my brain threw up the information about the TinyOwl app. Now, we had a ray of hope. Apps got downloaded immediately and we went fishing. The location was spot on, and this drastically reduced the number of restaurants we had to sort through and with the proper filters in place, we found a food joint, which was open at that ungodly hour and was ready to make doorstep deliveries. Without wasting a bit of time, the orders were placed and the wait began. That was one of the longest 45 minutes of my life and I have never been happier to see chicken biryani. The quality, for once, was not my main concern, the quantity mattered, and they scored high on the quantity. Someday, on less desparate conditions I ll try the food and judge the quality. But that early morning of Saturday, thanks to TinyOwl , we managed to find the restaurant and thanks to their delivery, we made it happy and full to our beds.
