Emrich is touch averse btw.
Emrich has some of that tied to the fact every person that touched him before did it to abuse or hit him btw. So he will have a panic attack about it.
Emrich has also been kinda sexually harassed in the past too. So he… has issues around that.
He forces all of this “to be fine” because he wants to look normal.
Yes that causes issues.
Emrich sees Ava with Hunter and how they cuddle and stuff and realizes he can never do that.
Yes he panics a lot over this.
(Ava literally doesn’t care she’d rather he just tell her how he feels. She knows what being forced into physical contact and more is like. She’d never do anything like that. All she wants is a “do you like me?” Yes or no. “Do you wanna date?” Yes or no. Then they do whatever is comfortable for both of them. Yes this miscommunication (more like lack entirely) causes issues.)

Emrich: Why does everyone say this is so important?

Ava: is this the first time you’ve tried? Genuinely? Most kids I know did it when they were 7 at the latest. And that was from dares from the other children, or just being so bored. You’re… what? 30? 40? You’ve definitely been bored before.

Ava: *looks at him in utter confusion and wonders why she cares what the homeless man who tried to kill her is doing hurting himself in his spare time… although it is on her property*

Ava: Is the sunset pretty tonight?
Emrich: I don’t know.
Ava: Well you could go look. It usually is! Looks like fire.
Emrich: you told me the sun makes you blind.
