30 Day NaNoWriMo Meme
Day 1: (Participated before?)
I participated last year and didn’t win, but I did manage to finish the story and multiple drafts enough to submit it to a few places to hopefully get published.
Day 2: (title and why)
Hunters 2: Escaping the Chapter
We’re sticking with stories and book themed ideas because the stories focus around a character we created called The Storyteller and it all circles around him, sorta ^_~
Day 3: (pick a female character, introduce from her POV)
Introductions are stupid and I’m not really interested. Just, get out of my face ok? …. no I’m not answering personal questions, why do you care anyway? No, I am not talking about my past or my choice in clothing. Go away. …. Fine. It’s Cyn. That’s my name. No, it’s not short for anything. Piss off
Day 4: (Genre and why)
Hunters is technically Urban Supernatural, where it takes place in our world and there just happen to be ‘demons’. It’s a genre I have recently come to love because it’s fun to take our world and twist it just a little out of the way. That and this is the first story I’ve written where I’m actually basing it in Minneapolis Minnesota, so that will be a nice new challenge!
Day 5: (two songs from playlist and why connected)
Down To Earth by Jem - This song is specifically for a character who will show up in future parts of this series, but its the same tone as the music I like to write to.
Breath Of Life by Florence + The Machine - This song has beautiful lyrics and the sound of the song reminds me of a battle ramping up. That's a lot how I want the tone of these stories to be, so it keeps me in that focus.
Day 6: (Biggest stressor)
My biggest stressor is the fact that I don't write well at home. My favorite place to write is at work during my break times and before I clock in. This gives me very limited time to write. I can write at home, but only when I'm alone and the house is quiet, so hopefully I can keep up with the limit in the time given.
Day 7: (Favorite place to write)
At a desk with a full computer (not a laptop) and pandora booming in my ears. Something about sitting in that position with the music loud lets me complete focus, even if I'm at work on lunch break and everything is moving around me.
Day 8: (word count, are you happy with this?)
My word count is 25024. Normally this looks like I'm halfway done, but I'm aiming for 70,000 words, so not quite half way yet. I'm very happy with this number as I'm ahead of where I should be. Given my limits of only really writing at work, this is pretty good for me.
Day 9 - (told anyone else you're doing nano? their reactions?)
I've told quite a few people I'm doing nano, mainly to give myself verbal reminders that damnit, I'm going to make it this year. I've told a few friends that I'm doing it and they should join me, and, of course, I'm going through this meme on tumblr ^_^
Day 10 - (How does your love of writing manifest in non-NaNo months?)
I write a lot. Or well, in college I used to write all the time. Now I sew more and don't get to writing as much, but I'm still trying to stay in it. My muses take dry spell periods every couple months and I'm using this Hunters series to get rid of the current dry spell, so far it appears to be working.
Day 11 - (Ever tried role-play or collaborative writing?)
Doing so right now!! This is my second story doing this and it's a bit hard to get used to, but I know her so well that it works really well. You just have to be open about changing any scene, if needed.
Day 12 - (Imagine you're behind and gonna pull an all nighter, what's your playlist? Screencap)
Day 13 - (Name a male character from your novel. Describe him through the point of view and words of the female character you introduced in question 3.(if they never interact, pick another female character).)
And why exactly do you want to ask me about Haven? You're far too nosey for your own good, didn't you get the hint last time that I don't like to talk about people? He... no, I'm not admitting to anything. I don't like him. Not really. Not... well, like that... I guess.... maybe... a little... Shut up! Just leave me alone!
Day 14 - (Is the sexuality of your characters a large part of your novel’s story? If so, are there characters who deviate from the heterosexual “norm”? In what way?)
Not really. There are straight characters, gay, lesbian and demons who just really don't give a crap because sex is sex. The only one who is specifically one thing is Harper, who would never even consider sleeping with a guy. Otherwise it's just a piece of life that isn't a big deal, so we really don't make it one.
Day 15 - (Do any of your characters have a disability or mental illness? If so, how does that affect their development throughout your story?)
Yes, she doesn't play too much of a part in this story, but will in later stories. Her name is Laura and she has a slight form of autism coupled with recovering from abuse from her parents. Mainly in this story she'll be introduced with Laurence - her lawyer turned lover - and her 'state' will be explored as the stories go on and she becomes a more key part.
Day 16 - (At around the half-way point, it bears mentioning that most of us wrimos have other obligations beside simply hitting that elusive word count. What else do you have going on in your life (work, school, children, neurotic pets, etc.), and just how much are you shafting it to win NaNo?)
Oddly enough, not as much as I thought it would be. I'm still managing to juggle my commissions and work and life with all of this writing, so I'm doing pretty good.
Day 17 - (In what time period is your novel set? Is it in this world or another?)
Today. Today in Minneapolis and another world full of demons, when needed.
