your house was filled with your daughter's laughter, crystal-clear. you pad from the kitchen to her bedroom where the sound was coming from. creaking the door just slightly, your treacherous heart skips a beat.
your husband is rolling on the floor, to the continuous amusement of his daughter, who is hanging on the edge of the bed, wheezing. her five-toothed smile makes something scorch in your heart.
"for my next trick...!" sukuna stands up and then does a spin-wheel and your daughter is overjoyed. she clamps her hands over her mouth, o-ho-ing loudly.
"dada! dada!" she drags the last syllable out, her arms raised over her head.
"yeah, i'm coming, sweety, i'm coming." your husband picks her up with ease, nestling her on his chest.
"next time i'm going to teach you how to do it, too, alright?"
your daughter nods. "dada!"
you've never felt this before; the feeling of your heart slowly melting. sukuna's eyes look at your daughter like she is the most precious thing in the world.
then he notices you standing in the doorway, arms crossed over your chest, fond smile that you are physically unable to wipe from your face.
"terrific performance," you say, latching onto his arm. "you like daddy's acrobatics, little one?" you pinch your daughter's nose and her face lights up.
"swear this girl is just a bundle of joy," your husband sighs, setting his free hand on the small of your back. "should i help you set the table, wife?"
your heart sommersaults. will you ever get used to him calling you that?
"don't worry about it." then, unbdridled: "i think she's more like you than you realize, husband."

synopsis: you've got a day and a half until you meet everyone of importance in sukuna's life. luckily, he's got an idea of how to get into character.
a/n: this chapter contains some mature content, but nothing explicit (yet!)
hyperion universe
that might have been the longest wednesday of your entire life. you ran errands, you cleaned the whole apartment, you went and personally quit your job, not before gently and lady-like giving the middle finger to the manager, started walking home in the april rain, saw some guys playing football in the mud and even though you had two left feet, you took of your shoes and played with them and then ran all the way home barefoot because they kept asking you to give them money.
and now here you are, on the dusty sofa, with nothing to do, except think about the very thing you've been avoiding for the whole day. the fact that sukuna told everyone that you were married.
you had to lay out some facts, so you brought over pen and paper.
HE LIKES ME
he told everyone we were married
he listens to me
he does that weird thing of taking care of me (???)
he makes me food
HE DOESN'T LIKE ME
a normal person doesn't make their crush (?????) play husband and wife
he barely speaks
why would he not just tell me, i'm clearly into him too
you scribbled the last line out and sighed, totally defeated. the pros were more than the cons, but you still weren't convinced. you mentally also added the fact that both of you were going through some pretty rough times, which are probably not the best times for a long and steady relationship. also, why didn't he say he had a girlfriend? that would have been easy to get out of! but a wife...
you almost jump through the ceiling when you hear his door open. you make quick work of crumpling the paper in your hands, stuffing it in your pocket. as his steps get closer, your skin starts to prickle.
sukuna hops over on the sofa, not even bothering to go all the way round. he's only wearing shirt, boxers and socks and you cannot understand how he is so casual about it.
"woman, i've got something to ask you." you roll your eyes. you've noticed he has the tendency to this. try to appear tough, when in reality he's about to combust. he won't meet your eyes. you've got a strange feeling of deja-vu.
"that's what you said this morning. is it something as shocking as that?" he still doesn't meet your eyes, instead crosses his arms over his chest and shakes his head.
"no. maybe. i don't know." he furrows his brows and purses his lips, as if the words he's about to say are fighting to get out. you're about to say something, to ease his visible awkwardness, but he beats you to it:
"have you ever kissed anyone?"
the question hangs in the air for a moment and it's at this moment that you feel his gaze on you, unrelenting and more than curious. you nod.
"oh."
"have you?"
he shakes his head and well. that is not something you were expecting.
"i mean i did, for some roles...! but i've never... never had the time." he runs his hand through his hair. "ah, this is stupid, fuck it. i was just thinking that... that if we are married, we would do this thing."
you half of expect him to flee, but instead he looks over at you, worry and something else in his eyes and the dam breaks open. maybe because you've had a hell of a day, or maybe because it's unfair that he gets to stride around the house in practically nothing (which you suppose he would do if you were married). you cradle his lap, your knees dipping softly in the sofa and latch your hands at the base of his neck, nails digging softly into the texture of his fade.
"are you nervous?" his hands come to rest on the small of your back as he huffs.
"as if, woman."
"stop calling me that," you whisper as you slowly crane your face towards his, brushing the tips of your noses together. you feel his smirk before seeing it.
"what then?"
voice hushed, lips already his, but not quite there yet, not quite touching: "are we not married? call me your wife." sukuna jerks forwards as if your words electrocuted him and finally, finally, your lips meet. it's not the way you imagined kissing him would be, fierce and rough, like the eruption of a volcano. instead, it's more like the moment before a storm breaks.
you lick the seam of his lips and he opens his mouth to you, his hands tightening where he was holding you. for a moment, it feels like you're falling into an unknown darkness but then he roughly pulls away, panting, eyes sharp and focused. on you.
"was that good?" he asks you, voice hoarse and hair ruffled from where you had unknowingly tugged on it. how can you tell him that it was everything that you had ever wanted? how can you tell him that this sole kiss changed the course of your life, because tomorrow, when you wake up, you'll do so having known what it felt like to kiss him. your hands come to rest atop his shoulders, eyes wandering down.
"if i were your wife, i would kiss you all the time."
a beat passes and you can see him thinking for a long moment. "i would let you." before your heart even has the chance to start thundering crassly in your chest, he stands up and your legs wrap around him as if you've done this a million time.
"if we were married, i would never let my wife's feet grace the floor." you giggle and hide your face in his shoulder, face fuzzy and brain fried. "if we were married i would kiss every inch of you until your body remembered my touch only."
"you'd make a most possessive husband."
"wouldn't that please you, wife?" he presses your back to the wall next to his bedroom. one of his hands traces the shape of your eyebrow then down your nose, your cheek and the wave of your lips.
oh my god, is he holding you up with only one hand?
"you're most beautiful, wife." ah, you regret telling him to call you that because now your face is turning red and you finally heat pooling in your lower belly.
"kiss me like you mean it then." and when he surges forward it's not like the kiss you shared before. this is the kiss of a man who has been sitting in silence for too long of a time finally hearing music. it's the kiss of someone who knows they're taking something that isn't theirs.
and you kiss back with the same force, body on fire. your hands roam; over his neck, his shoulders, his back, his shirt bunched up between your fingers. his tongue runs over the sharp of your teeth before he bites on your lip and you're unable to hold back your whimper. he meets you in the middle, grunting and pushing you harder against the wall, his mouth making his way down. he nibbles at your chin, teeth scraping the skin there.
your left hand finds pursuit in his hair while your right grips his shoulder. you make the mistake of opening your eyes and you see him looking back at you, mouth kissing down your neck. the moment your eyes meet, something pulsates from within you both and you wrap your legs around him tighter, wanting him to be closer, wanting him to fuse into you.
"you're sure this is the first time you've done this?"
"i would never lie to my wife."
he then stumbles into his bedroom with you still in his arms and you look curiously around. the window is open and the bedroom itself looks neat. bed properly made, folded clothes on a chair in the corner, writing table uncluttered. you see some photos taped to the wall, but before you can get a better look, you're gently put onto the edge of the bed. sukuna kneels, one hand resting on your knee.
"stay here tonight." you feel like it's getting harder to breathe, with the way he's looking at you.
"alright." you peel him off yourself, telling him you have to take a shower first and change into something more comfortable. when you come back, hands gripping your pillow, dressed in your best pajamas, he's already sleeping like a log.
your heart positively blooms with this new feeling. you close the window and deposit yourself ceremoniously next to him. sukuna shifts and pulls you closer to him, body impossibly hot. the pillow that you had brought lies forgotten somewhere and you close your eyes, reeling in the silence.
when you wake up, sukuna had somehow ditched his shirt during the middle of the night. eyes still bleary from sleep and brain foggy, you run a finger over his side until your finger finds a lump. unable to see it, you perch onto your elbow. it looks like a scar, a little pink and uneven.
"want to know where that came from?" you yelp out of surprise. he pulls you until your resting over him and you have half-the-mind to worry about your elbows pressing too hard against him.
"morning," he says, voice gruffy as he runs his hands through your hair.
"morning." you smile, heart beating wildly in your chest. you cannot believe how gentle he is. you have to admit, your first months of living here, you had thought that you were sharing the apartment with a murderer. or a convict. or a shady person in general. his tattoos gave way to ruthless imagination and the fact that he never talked or got out of his room did not help his case.
your breath catches in your throat as his hand guides yours to the spot you touched earlier.
"promise you won't laugh?"
"of course..." your words hang. you had wanted to say love, but for some reason your brain did not let you push through this barrier.
"i was born with four arms. the doctors cut them off when i was little, but the scars are still there." you're stunned. you didn't even know that was possible. you nod solemnly, at a loss for words. but then your devilish little brain supplies you with a question that you just can't ignore.
"and what about your tattoos? what do they mean?" as you say the words, you trace the circles on his biceps lazily, head resting now entirely on his chest. the rhythm of his heart is calming.
"that is... a story for another time." you understand. he already shared with you more than you expected.
"thank you," you say honestly, "for trusting me."
"if i can't trust my wife, then who else?" then, his hands sneak under the sheets, massaging slow circles in the skin of your back. you feel yourself melting under his touch.
"we should practice, you know." your muffled voice makes him chuckle, a low sound that sends vibrations through his chest. "it's like running lines, sort of. method acting."
at that, your ears perk up. "method acting you say?"
"we should stay in character until the play."
"fine, husband." you try to sound annoyed, but you know your words amount to nothing when your body gives in so easily. you mhm when sukuna kisses your cheek and then the lobe of your ear, biting i gently. "we should still get up."
"ten more minutes. ten more minutes and we do whatever you want."
how to tell him you'd wish this moment would be frozen in time?
a/n: things are starting to pick up! also, halfway through writing this i felt like i was ooc ing sukuna too hard, it's hard writing him being soft and not evil. kidding he's the ultimate yearner.
