should have known the date was going to be like this from his very first text:
sorry, can you drive us there? im a little low on gas money
he was a guy you met on campus, whom you found passibly attractive and marginally funny. and you needed a distraction from all the studying, from your nagging parents, from everything. why did you think you could find your peace with a man?
all you needed was some quiet, for your brain to shut up for once, to fall into a deep silence.
this guy was the farthest thing from that. he had babbled the entire ride to the arena, something about his cat eating his fish. you nodded politely, turning the radio up by a number every now and then, but he didn't seem to mind. if anything, he adjusted his voice to be even louder, so you could hear him loud and clear.
the arena was packed and you felt yourself falling into that easy excitement of watching a live game. the company was not the best, but you couldn't wait to watch the game. you were so thrilled, you didn't even mind when the guy slithered a cold hand onto the top of your thigh, sliding into your personal space with some lame excuse of asking you about some of the rules.
you relaxed a little under his touch and mentally smacked yourself for being crazy. this guy was decent and you were here to have a good time, so why spoil it?
but soon the game started and you cared for little else. you were standing, yelling like you were their coach, heart jumping out of your chest when your team missed and hammering loudly when they scored. the guy was not half as excited as you and his expression was twisted and weird. he kept glancing around, averting his gaze and you realized with a pang that he was embarassed.
it was at that moment, when you were cursing him internally, that the kiss camera decided to pan on you two. people cheered while the guy was motioning with his hands no, refusing to even look at you. you couldn't believe the nerve of this man...!
suddenly, a large hand wrapped just under your chin and pulled your head a little bit to the side. your brain couldn't register what was happening and before you knew it, you were being kissed stupid. the kiss was hot and urgent, open-mouthed, and for a moment you were frozen. then you closed your eyes and crooked your head, your nails finding solace in the stranger's forearm.
when his tongue entered your mouth, searching snd unrelenting, your brain was nothing but static. the kiss cam and your shitty date disappeared, the crowd had dissipated and your worried slowly faded away. all that remained was the passion of the kiss, the grounding warmth of him, the sharp of his teeth and the desperate need to hang this moment in time.
when he pulled away, he bit your lip playfully and you felt the way his lips curled into a smirk. that little gestured made you shudder. after a moment or two trying to chase away the stars in your vision, you took a good look at the guy. pink hair, unruly and wild, much like the way he kissed, fading into a sharp, fresh undercut that made your fingers tingle. his features were well-defined and he was, without exaggeration, the hottest guy you've ever seen. your mouth went dry when he crossed his arms over his chest, muscles bulging, and it was a herculean feat that you did not climb into his lap right then and there and let him kiss you senseless.
"uhm, what the fuck...?" your date shattered the moment.
"missed your chance, buddy," the stranger rasped, his voice sand on burning hot metal. then his eyes locked onto yours.
"ryomen. but you can call me ryo. want to get out of here?"
and damned be the game, damned be your date, damned be everything.
"only if you kiss me again," you say, uncharacteristically brave. his smile, predatory, makes something dangerous swirl in your lower belly.
"wasn't planning on sitting idle." and he leads you out into the deep and cold night, hand warm in yours, body a furnance as he wraps an arm around your shoulder.
