In 1935, Finland adopted a robust 9mm pistol designed by Aimo Lahti. These guns fired with a locked breech and used an accelerator bolt that made them reliable weapons, even in the coldest weather. The Finnish guns, referred to as M35 pistols, are marked with the logo of their manufacturer, VKT. In 1940, Sweden licensed the Finnish design, and Husqvarna began production of a slightly modified version, the M40. The guns have a striking resemblance to Lugers, and are often mistakenly identified as such.
