Chapter 1: (Ab)normal Days - Red Eye Motive
What day was it; day three maybe? Definitely less than a week and definitely not more. It was seven in the morning too when Monobear made his reappearance since their abrupt awakening at the beach.
“It’s seven in the morning you lazy bastards! Time to wake up! The Headmaster needs all students at the airport now! Anyone who doesn’t attend will be severely punished, so hurry up!” his robotic voice rang throughout the entire area so he could be heard whether a person was in their room still sleeping or anywhere on the two islands available for their exploring needs!
The tone is threatening so, whether you’d like to or not, you haul off your ass to the designated meeting place.
When everyone finally arrives, perhaps all in different states of attire whether they were ready for the day or still in their pajamas, Monobear pops up, front and center and calls for your attention.
His expression looks sweet and it looks like he’s blushing too as he gazes at all of you fondly. “I’m so glad to see such youthful individuals like you all up and early and ready for a beautiful day. Isn’t it nice to live out your life while you’re young? Don’t you think the potential you could all have is wasted on this island?” he started off in an almost dreamy tone until his face contorted into a comical expression of rage. “Which is why I’m wondering why bastards haven’t killed each other off yet!? You must want to get off this island?!”
“Why won’t any of you kill someone? It’s easy! Clubbing, beating, drowning, hanging, cutting, I don’t care! There are many ways to off one of you losers!” he continues in an angered rant but suddenly calms down with the same dreamy expression from before. “But I am a kind Headmaster so I’ll make it worth your while to become the killers all humans are born to be
. If you would all take out your Electronic Student Identification Cards and check the menu, a new option under Media should be there. Each of you bastards has a different video that I think you will be all interested in, upupupu!”
The tone and message is ominous and, whether it is out of sheer curiosity, fear or some other reason, you follow anyway. A new item has indeed appeared on your ID menu. Below Rules, Map and Bio is the word Media and, inside the folder, is a video file with the file name ‘Red Eye Watches‘ followed by a name. A name of someone important to you, whether it is your parents, a family member or a friend, a significant other or a mentor or just about any important connection you have, their name is there.
With a click, it plays although there is no sound. On the small screen, you see that important person living out their normal, everyday lives without you and the angles seem to be from a security camera… No biggie, security cameras could have been hacked or tapes could have been stolen, right? The video that is supposed to be day’s worth of video are shortened down to minutes as they are played in fast forward. It seems harmless enough…
Until that is, a few minutes, perhaps fifteen minutes or so into the video, the footage starts to play at normal speed. That important person stands up and goes to the front door and there is a delivery man there. The angle changes to show you what the delivery man is holding… a toy Monobear.
Then it stops before you see what happens next.
It has probably been silent for the past few minutes with everyone watching their video. Suddenly, Monobear breaks that silence with his laugh. “If you’re too stupid to understand, I’ll explain it to you! Your loved ones are being watched and if none of you bastards don’t do anything interesting in the next 24 hours, I can’t guarantee their safety! So whatever morally driven, emotion based dilemma you may be dealing with right now, you have my sympathy. But for the sake of time and sanity, let’s break this down into a little fact based logic. One simple murder will save their lives and will get you off the island too! Doesn’t that sound good to all you bastards?”
Easy to understand checkpoint: react! Show your videos to your fellow classmates if you are willing. This is a good chance to find out more about our characters and who are so important to them in the outside world. Cry, rage, cringe, Monobear wants to see it all.
Is the loved one their parent? A sibling? A best friend who's always been there for them? The old grump down the street that treats you like a granddaughter? Despair all around, their lives are in trouble if Monobear gets bored! Perhaps people start to get murderous thoughts? What are strangers compared to your loved ones?!
I am now accepting murder entries!
