In Hyrule Warriors, Zelda takes on the disguise of Sheik like her counterpart in Ocarina of Time. Not only was she inspired by the tale of one of her many predecessors, but by Impa herself. In the face of her army being deceived by their own loyalty to her, Impa is really the only one she can trust completely - as she fears Link could fall into the same trap as her other knights. Having grown up alongside Impa, Zelda believes she can use styles of combat that imitate Impa's to both conceal her identity and give Impa a reason to keep Sheik close. Ultimately, it works; she's just surprised that Impa didn't realize who Sheik was sooner, even as she questioned the legitimacy of the fake Zelda.

misc hw zelda headcanons:

part two! because i love her and she never leaves my brain. some of this will include some of my general headcanons for hyrule warriors that do not exist in canon. #myhyrulewarriors

To me, HW exists in the Child timeline, some 500 years after the events of Twilight Princess. Zelda is the first daughter of the Goddess in over 200 years, which is partially why she’s so magically powerful.

Her Dominion Rod is an artifact passed down the family.

And this is where I really flub things! Her “Wind Waker” is not the Wind Waker. I tend to put Toon Link and Tetra as older than HW Link and Zelda in my Hyrule Warriors. Basically, Zelda got super inspired by Toon and bribed an artificer to make her a baton in a similar style. (Toon was super flattered lmao. He was the one who taught her the WW songs!)

Basically, her Baton acts as a magic wand she can use to concentrate her magic through.

She loooves her dresses. Though she still prefers things she can move in easily. Her favorite color is pink, though she will wear blue and violet as well.

She inherited OoT Zelda’s ability of prophetic dreams, though hers tend to be more metaphorical than foreshadowing actual events. (Think opening scene of Hyrule Warriors.)

At some point, Link started showing up in her dreams. This is why she had the Hero’s outfit ready for him!

She’s a huge history nerd. This ties into her obsession with past Queens I mentioned before. Girl spent hours studying the past portraits hanging in the grand hall. Definitely had a hyperfixation on the Twilight Realm at some point.

Dueled Volga at 14 and won. No I will not elaborate.

While Impa was still a trainee, Zelda used to beg to go watch her in the trainee courtyard. “Your Highness, His Majesty said-“ “I WANNA WATCHHHH.” Most dramatic child ever. No chill.

Her favorite activity is hitting things with her sword. Her second favorite activity is tea time with friends :)

(Her third favorite activity is evading Impa, from ages 11 to- actually I don’t think she ever stopped.)

I hit her with the autism beam.

In the aftermath of Age of Calamity, the Sheikah technology this time does not disappear (because this alternate timeline was CREATED by such technology, gifted with Zelda's unknown time powers on accident when she constructed Terrako with her mother...). Zelda uses it to optimize her research of ancient cultures, which ultimately leads her to understand their mis-interpretstion of early Zonai Ruins. She begins to chase answers with the assistance of Purah, Robbie, and certain reformed members of the Yiga Clan, who have even begun their own village - although there is some trouble from members who aren't so happy with Kohga's decision to betray the Calamity...

Hyrule Warriors Zelda seems to act in sync with Link on the battlefield, especially late game. This applies to her Sheik persona as well, albeit a bit more calm and collected. In the field of an average battle or training mission, Zelda is the type to send endless encouragement to her troops - but, in Link's case, it ends up a bit closer to flirting... All that aside, the two are a serious threat to their foes when together. Even their fellow warriors are aware of it, so they're glad they're on the same side.
