Fi and Ghirahim's arcs parallel each other in this beautiful tragic way that I feel a lot of people miss.
You know Fi is a sword from the very beginning. She presents herself as a tool with no will or feelings of her own, but as you get to know her, you realize she is a person in her own right, but she is trapped in her weapon form indefinitely without any choice in the matter.
You know Ghirahim is a person from the very beginning. He presents himself as someone full of personality and opinions, outright telling you how he feels on several occasions so you can't possibly miss that he has emotions. but as you get to know him, you realize he's a sword too, and one who, if you read between the lines (see my analysis), has clearly been terribly mistreated all his existence and has adopted this loud, impossible to ignore personality so that no one can deny his sapience. but he is trapped in his weapon form indefinitely without any choice in the matter.
Fi does everything in her power to convince you she is not a person. Ghirahim tries everything in his power to convince you that he is.
Professor Owlan: "What happened to Zelda...it's just terrible. But there's no point in your kicking yourself about it. It was an accident..."
