THANATOPHOBIA ( n ) : the fear of you or a loved one dying. the air hangs heavy with it every time they step out of headquarters — hell, when they roll out of bed on sanguine mornings, the first conscious query is to the sheets : ‘ will i be coming back to you tonight ? ’ like ink, it bleeds through the walls and crevasses and seeps into a soldier’s canvas, saturating colors of deep scarlets and flesh pink / a divine muddle of paranoia and anxiety for what lies in wait, jaws agape. but the over - exposure ( as a bystander / as an officer ), even the close graze of its teeth across his throat ( almost, almost ) has wrought practiced ease into every step havoc takes on the field, and this mission should be no exception to his graceful dance with death.
