Hyaril and the Thalmor
Hyaril didn't become the Third Emissary in the Cyrodiil branch of the Thalmor Embassy by any fair means. Though, he can certainly do the job when he isn't pretending not too.
It was through nepotism, bribery and blackmail, that he climbed through the ranks. The influence of his family being used to gain him his current position. And, that also allows him to keep it, and abuse his position.
But, he didn't become a Thalmor because he wanted to. He simply became one because he was told too by the patriarch of the family; his brother. This has left Hyaril not truly caring for the cause of the Thalmor; he simply regurgitates what he has been taught and told. He views the Thalmor as something of another set of bars around the cage that has been built around him.
And, with him deciding to take some months leave from the Thalmor to be in Skyrim. He denies being connected to them, and refuses to engage in any conversation that can be linked to the Thalmor. Hyaril will refuse to speak of Talos, of any sorts of Religion, political ideals and views on the war. Though, he will still act friendly towards members of the Thalmor. Seeing it as a necessity because he is an Altmer.
