classically trained musicians flocking to freak tumblr is funny as fuck lol. how do u feel about la campanella 🦷
a common yet effective showpiece. i’m going to assume you’re talking about liszt’s adaptation. i’m not one for concertos and typically stick to sonatas, études, solos. something something snobbish piano player, i know. i enjoy my instrument.
la campanella is unique among liszt’s pieces because, well, it’s not his composition. i’m sure you’re aware it’s originally from niccoló panganini’s violin concerto which features a handbell, that liszt quite accurately replicated on a piano. that’s also assuming you didn’t do a google search of romantic era composers and choose the first one.
it’s quite a good showcase of technical skill, requiring one to have command over their instrument with little room for error. large interval leaps — including fifteenths and sixteenths — fast, and a challenge for both hands to play. it’s one of the most famous virtuoso pieces for piano, and for good reason. in addition, la campanella has it all if you’re looking to impress an examiner — flashy, difficult, and memorable coda anyone can keep up with. accessible enough for individuals not familiar with classical pieces, challenging enough to show off all your piano skills in under 5 minutes. essentially the equivalent of a michael bay film on a piano.
widely considered one of the most difficult virtuoso pieces, and, it’s playable! unlike my most hated “composition” ever. it’s also sometimes called the carpal tunnel concerto for this reason. brownie points for you, anon, for mentioning one of my favorite romantic era composers. impressive.
i only know of one musician on this site, and I reblog them quite a bit. if there are others you know of, i simply must be made aware.
