Hey there, Wily-Fox/Foxy... I was wondering something, how did you get so good with your shading and color blending? I'm 13 years old, and usually I'm disappointed with my art 2 days after I color and finish it. Half the time, I cringe at my recent artwork. Do you have any special teaching or is it self taught? Because I'm self taught and... it's not going well.
Hello! ʕ ᵔᴥᵔ ʔ
I didn't have any special teaching, and I learned everything I know myself or from the Tumblr tutorials (mostly from them).
My experience in coloring, in addition to the basics of color theory (you should look for it on Tumblr search bar, it's important) and a lot of tutorials I've read (@pantry-of-fox, tags #how to draw and #reference, or any other tutorial you find yourself), is based on three things: practice, time, and improvisation. I've been drawing in digital for three years, and with every art I draw, with every new style I try, I get a little better (´。• ω •。`)
And I think that`s OK to look at your old works and see mistakes in them! This means that you are improving ❤ Just keep going, every art you draw makes you a little better! (seriously, it does)
Some tips that I follow!
1) Don't be afraid to use an eyedropper! If you like the color, pick it up!
2) Keep all the colors on separate layers! This will help you recolor the layer you don't like using Clip At Layer Below function or Hue/Saturation/Luminosity Tool.
3) When you apply shading, move around the color wheel to a slightly different shade and make it darker! (Like the drawing in the end, thanks Dumblr)
I read about this tip in some tutorial, but I can't find it now.
4) Don`t use black for shading! In my experience, this color doesn't look very good (with the exception of monochrome works ofc)
5) Experiment with layers! See how certain layer settings change your drawing.
I hope this was useful! (⌒▽⌒)♡
