i considered framing hydrangea and frostfleur as rival guilds for this AU, but after taking the personalities and motivations for these characters into consideration, i felt like it would make more sense for the hydrangea guild to admire frostfleur from afar. 🙂↕️
i like the contrast between the two guilds. hydrangea is full of novice adventurers who are optimistic and easily impressed by others.🪻frostfleur is a more seasoned guild, and they've built a reputation for being dependable. ❄️

i wanted to keep the basic lore for these characters intact (tsukki's missing mother, shigumi's role as a bodyguard, tollan having a connection to fire and also joining tsukki/shigumi a bit later). i think i managed it okay without compromising on the important things! 🤗🤗
i briefly toyed with the idea of having them join the hydrangea guild alongside suki, but i wanted to keep the party size small for each group, and i wanted both suki and tsukki to have main character status. i also don't like mixing the groups too much - it's okay since this is an AU, but i haven't really considered the overall group dynamics of, say, tollan and satoshi (as an example). i think it would be fun to eventually have the two guilds interact in some way though! 🌟🌟
tollan looks the most like the EO class portrait i used. shigumi ended up being a mix of different landsknect designs. for tsukki, it was more of a palette swap than a design overhaul. still, i think these OCs are just too different from the portraits that are in EO...but hopefully they're still somewhat recognizable as EO classes! 🙂↕️🙂↕️

the gang finally makes it to the penultimate stratum!! i rushed the background and i still haven't found a good way to color things but overall i like this one i think...
i like how satoshi is leading the group here. and i like shiro's expression...i think there's some uncertainty and tension in the air maybe...

i kind of want to do short comics of each guild member's motivation for joining suki...shika's reason is pretty straightforward (hopelessly in love with suki lmao) but shiro's reasoning is probably more complicated...i'd also love to make a comic introducing the 5th member of the guild! 💠🩵
this comic was mostly just an excuse to draw satoshi getting put through the wringer (as usual). i've been enjoying drawing satoshi lately... he's like a sleeper agent OC to me 🫣
