Coal gasification projects
NTPC’s retendered 1 TPD plasma-gasification hydrogen package provides a sharp reference point for India’s evolving coal gasification projects. The award saw tight price clustering, continuity of earlier financial instruments and uncompromising licensing norms, shaping a competitive field where only proven EPC firms could participate. The mandate covers EPC execution plus two-year O&M, a structure steadily gaining traction across hydrogen-linked and coal gasification projects nationally.
The core scope includes 25 TPD plasma gasification, multi-stage syngas cleaning, PSA/VPSA/membrane-based hydrogen separation, 200-bar compression and 2-tonne storage. Essential-data declarations enforce precision around feed characteristics, consumables and electrode life—parameters that directly influence cost behaviour in plasma-based systems and adjacent coal gasification projects. NTPC retained all technical specifications during the retender, modifying only administrative elements such as bid-security carry-forward and tender-fee waivers for previous participants.
The qualification bar remained high: Rs 154-crore cumulative EPC experience, Rs 55-crore single contract and a minimum four-year plasma-technology licence. Eligibility was further shaped by Class-I supplier norms and land-border compliance. Eight bidders—from Nuberg to Jakson Green and HAL Offshore—indicate broad interest in waste-to-hydrogen and related hydrogen production projects despite technology-specific risks.
This award signals NTPC’s intent to industrialise advanced conversion technologies through tightly controlled procurement, Coal Gasification Projects, Hydrogen Production Projects, Waste To Hydrogen, Energyline India.
