New Species: Striped Hyenas!
I don't have a ton of photos of this species: this sweet old man was the only one anywhere near me. He's since passed, so I wanted to get photos of him online. All he wanted to do the times I saw him was relax in the sun, so that's how we'll remember him.
The Animal Photo Reference Repository is an independent, permanently open-access project and funded entirely by donations. Artists creating derivative or transformative works (without AI) have blanket permission to use all photos in the repository as references.

As a kid, I love animal encyclopedias. I remember seeing a mysterious photo of an animal with spooky reflective eyes. It's described as a rarely seen Striped Hyena. AKA an Aardwolf.
Tracking down more pictures of cool animals I happen to see in a book is a fun part of my childhood. BUUUT, sometimes I grab a more grown up magazine in the serious science section of the library, and get traumatized. My school had National Geographic and loved the photos until I got to the article about a creepy abandoned artic base 🥶 I still go back haha! I wanna see more rare animals.
Edit: I should've googled. Aruugh! sorry, Striped Hyenas are not Aardwolves. They are two different animals. I might look for that old book as well 😱 also thank you for the correction. I do read the tags.
