RECORD STORE DAY
YESTERDAY: "Marty Feldman Eyes" by Bruce "Baby Man" Baum I picked this 45 up on a whim at Hymie's in Minneapolis many years ago. I knew nothing about the performer. I had never heard the song. However, with a title like this, I was powerless to resist. It's the bet $3 I've ever spent, an assertion that was reinforced when I shrieked with laughter as I gave my buddy his first spin of the record. Bruce Baum is also one of the rodeo clowns in "Shakes The Clown," a formative movie for a young man that finds humor in things like drunken clowns beating up mimes.

friday night - two sets in minneapolis
GL is playing an early set and late set in minneapolis on friday - at 6 p.m. we'll be helping hymie's vintage records bring in record store day with a free in-store acoustic set. hymie's has been described as "a classic, overstuffed mom-and-pop used-vinyl haven, Hymie's has been around since the '80s, and it's still an ideal stop for serious digging." assuming we'll be able to dig ourselves out, we'll then head to kitty cat klub to join a great bill of bands - the farewell circuit, caetani and fire in the northern firs. music starts at 10 and door is 5 bucks. it'll be the cd release show for caetani. jammx!
