I Wish...
I wish I lived in a world where....
Writers were not synonymous with beggars.
Washboard stomachs were not an indication of a woman's beauty and health.
A crying man is not seen as effeminate.
Technology was not a detriment for real, human interactions.
A lot of rappers professed their love for what a woman carries on the inside.
Everyone has found their life's calling.
True love is not so difficult to find and maintain.
Sex is not promoted as the primary form of intimacy and the validation of one's relationships.
There are no strict borders across lands and people can travel whenever they please.
Politics weren't so divisive.
There's a bookstore in every town.
Naps would be an integral part of the work day.
Acknowledgment of one's self worth was universal.
Outspokenness was more appreciated...particularly for women and especially for minorities.
Time slowed down when one is in the company of others and sped up when in the midst of toiling.
I know that a lot of people in my comic book class did their papers on the hyper-sexualization of women in comics. We were given free topic range with the assignment, so I decided to take a different approach.
I chose to write about the unrealistic portrayal of men and how sexualized they are. That a tight, full spandex suit is just as 'revealing' as a low cut costume and that there is a difference between sexualization and sexism. I do believe that sexism exists in comics based on the writers and the media, but both sexes are extremely sexualized as a whole.
The image based around Ted Kord was another topic I brought up. That when men are displayed as not perfect, there is usually a confidence issue. Or in this case, looking at the weight to height ratio, the need to be unhealthy as that is a perfect weight for a muscular man his height.
These are just a few of the images I chose to reference. I have to draw a comic based around this, so I will post that as soon as it's finished.
