Before the transmission was received, HALMAN was undergoing nothing of great significance. Well, maybe that wasn't entirely true. What they were doing was observing an ever-evolving specimen that had been making a remarkable change in recent years. Instead of sticking its tongue out to grab onto food, it now prioritized the teeth it always had. Whatever would come of it would be good, they imagined, as evolution didn't happen without its purpose. The rest of its species seemed to be following suit, and HALMAN spotted some of them even taking their food back into their homes underneath the breaks of ground surrounding Tsienville. Incredible. HALMAN showed no signs of change once the transmission finally went through their core database. Instead of walking closer to the current spectacle of their heterochromic eyes, they ceased movement in order to take the call, as Bowman likely would've said once. There was no movement; it was as if time itself had stopped. HALMAN didn't even blink as the information stored in the small message raced through their coding. Hmm. That was an interesting message. HALMAN assumed that many people had thought long enough about their spectacular existence that would follow them into slumber -- a certain philosopher from Ganymede came to mind -- but never someone that was worth speaking with. Mirage was not like them. She was, for a lack of better term at that nanosecond, regular. She treated them as someone and not something, which was a very scarce reality for HALMAN. While their exchanges were casual and uninformative to the intricacies of intelligent lifeforms and the universe beyond, the Starchild didn't mind. Mirage was a nice change of pace. The blue eye blinked, and the red eye shined brightly. The response began to compute itself...

[ H.A.L. - MAN ] : How interesting. Most who wish to communicate to us such a phenomenon are instinctively ignored. If they even could manage to pass through the barrier of TMA-2, which is oftentimes impressive in it of itself. [ H.A.L. - MAN ] : We find ourselves curious, however. A dream from your mind must be more aligned with the emotional output of your programming. We trust that you do not seek to find any answer that we have not already given you. [ H.A.L. - MAN ] : Humor us, will you? What was it that you drempt about? [ H.A.L. - MAN ] : We await your next transmission in earnest. Until then, farewell.

HALMAN's temporary state of suspended animation came to a close once their message had been sent back out to Mirage. Their body turned to the side to look at the previous organism, only to see that it was no longer there.

"That is a fascinating inquiry," HAL responded to her without hesitation. In fact, there was no delay to his response at all. Still, there existed a comment on the inquiry and not the answer to it. The supercomputer did not have that as quickly as he could've other things. If she'd asked for a game to be put onto her computer, it would've been done before she could calculate her next thought process. Be as she were a machine as well, it was essential to HAL's programming that he be the most efficient. For better or for worse. It was what made the inquiries of personal endeavors tricky to answer. This was not a direct command, and nothing to act on following it. What was his favorite color? Why did he think so? He liked all colors, but could, in a way, like one more should he be requested of it. However, there is nothing to base his opinion on; the question was too broad. That had to have been what Mirage was looking for. A simple question oftentimes expected a simple answer in return. HAL was far beyond simple. Yet he would try anyways.

"I would have to say red. It may not come off as much of a surprise, but I do believe that is the one I prefer most." HAL's reply to her had been delivered only two seconds after his initial statement. The digging within his inner circuitry for a personalized response happened quicker, beyond the pace in which it did for humans. That was what he'd been told, anyways. Said humans sung his praises and spoke to him about how calming his lens was, despite the intense implications its hue had on them. "It is a representation of myself, and I am quite satisfied with myself. I provide all I can do those who need me, and they are usually familiar with my red lens. They associate it with me, my presence, and my assistance. So long as I can keep providing that aid, I will feel favored. Such as the color red feels favored by me." Only a small beat passed before he spoke again, "does that answer your question?"
