LOOK ALERT: The need for consistent style is important. In the above examples from the same story, the two-party-preferred (yes, two hyphens in this descriptor) vote is, wrongly, expressed initially as a ratio “55:45″ but later, correctly, as the narrowing gap “from 43-35 to 42-36″. In this case, the hyphen is the standard substitute for the word “to”.
