Despite Apollo being my patron I can’t help but have just such a strong appreciation for Hypnos.
I mean if course I do, I work with him as well. And regardless, I look upon every deity in awe. But just, my gods.
Hypnos is one of the most gorgeous of the gods I’ve seen, (not that I truly compare them.) And it’s hard for me to put it into words. There’s just such a strong aesthetic appeal to him that is simply so.. intoxicating. And well I mean, it’s fitting as the god of sleep to have a face so gentle and entrancing is it not? His face is one you could find yourself lost in I suppose, I certainly get lost in it on occasion. The sleepy eyes, gentle profile, soft curvature. And although creases, lines, scars, puffiness in the face are gorgeous as well his lack there of is beautiful in another way. It’s just evidence of his peaceful life, and is representative of the peaceful and rejuvenating nature of a good nights sleep. His face is so kind on the eyes it’s ridiculous in all honestly. His face is a perfect reflection of what he stands for.
Although I know he is not all softness, I just think his appearance perfectly reflects the sweet and luring nature of good sleep. It’s just so friendly and inviting to look at, as is sleep is to partake in.
Not to mention that his very presence is akin to the feeling of laying in someone’s arms, at least it is in my personal experience. He’s just such an all around wonderful deity, and I will likely be making many more appreciation posts in the future.
And now for your viewing pleasure, here is some statues of Hypnos.
I’ll hush now, but I hope if nothing else you appreciated the ramblings of a crazy pagan boy.
