sometimes bark beetles are unreasonably small. Hypothenemus eruditis, 0.8mm long, at regular and 50x magnification.

i was identifying this extremely tiny (~1.5mm long) Hypothenemus bark beetle at work, and it was a species we didn't have in our reference collection so worth saving. unfortunately its head was attached by a literal string and bound to fall off if i point-mounted it as is, so i decided to mount the head separately on the tiniest pin i had like some kind of microscopic conan the barbarian kinda shit. they're going to take away my phd.
