To say Zen was nervous would be an understatement. He was blushing and unusually quiet, even about his own looks. That was probably what scared you the most. A dinner date with Zen, and he wasn’t saying a thing about his looks? Almost unheard of.
You decided to leave it though, and ate your food mostly in silence. But as the night wore on, it got unbearable. Zen and you never had uncomfortable silences right from when you first met at his house, but now.. You looked up from your plate to see him intensely focused on his own. Too focused.
“Zen..” He didn’t seem to register you calling him.
“Hyun,” your voice was soft but it seemed to do the trick. He jerked his head up, eyes wide. “H-huh, what?” It seemed to slowly dawn on him just how awkward this dinner date had been, and he sighed, placing his chin in his palm, while his other hand reached out to hold yours.
“I’m sorry jagiya,” he mummered, “I’m a little distracted it seems.” You had a little ball of worry growing. “Is.. Is it your career?” Oh dear God you hoped not. Zen worked so hard for everything he’s accomplished, if it was all plummetting now... You couldn’t even finish that thought in your own mind.
Relief swelled in your heart when he let out a soft chuckle, the first time you’ve seen Zen genuinely smile all night. “You’re too adorable, I’m lucky to have you,” he hummed as he stood up, not once letting go of your hand, and led you to the couch where the both of you sat, facing each other. He took both your hands in his and sighed with a soft smile.
“My career is fine, though thank you for thinking about that. I- I just had a question that’s been burning in my mind.”
Your own mind started to race, immediately surfacing with bad thoughts. He wants to break up with you.. You’re not good enough.. Maybe he found someone better..?
“MC... MC? .. MC” You snapped out of your thought process to see Zen staring at you with concern.
“Y-yeah no I’m fine.. I’m sorry, that was rude of me. What were you going to ask?”
He sighed and shifted, eyes looking everywhere but you. “I... was wondering if you wanted to move in with me?”
Now this was a shock. You and Zen had only been dating for six months, and this was so sudden, you were frozen in place. Zen seemed to interpret your silence differently and turned bright red, almost matching his eyes.
“MC, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable or anything, I just..” He sucked in a deep breath, “Ever since I met you, I felt like everything clicked into place. Everything shifted, and it felt brighter. And well, being with you made everything more bearable, and it could be freezing outside but when I’m with you.. All I feel is warmth. I fall in love with you every single day,” He flushed bright red again, but nonetheless continued, “..And I know it’s cheesy but it’s true. And well, you make me a much better person. Every single time you leave, my heart feels empty, and my home feels empty.. And recently I’ve realised that it’s because you are my home. I’m sorry for suggesting it, I never want to make you uncomfortab-”
He was cut off as you leaned forward to kiss him, and though caught off guard, he kissed you back, entangling his hands in your hair to bring you closer to him. Breaking the kiss, you smiled at him. Zen.. He made you feel like the luckiest girl in the world, and it was true. You really were.
“Oh lovely Zen.. Does the answer your question?”
“Ok but.. is that a yes or a no?” He smiled cheekily at you and you huffed with feigned irritation. “Shut up and kiss me again you cheeky bastard,” you laughed.
And he did. He kissed you over and over. And you were both happy with each other, like two souls meant to be.
