any random thoughts/hcs about any of the Hanburys?
okay so i actually have a lot of ideas for these because when my art isn't shit i wanna make like hella serious art compositions with them and so i've like, thought a lot about how i can engage with the text of the film meaningfully through visual symbolism. i said to my best friend i wanna do to lola what the fujos do with tenet. except lola is a better movie. watch lola 2022 dir andrew legge now.
anyway:
we know through supplementary interviews (and also it's just kinda obvious) that thom is wearing her dad's clothes. notably, though they aren't too long on her but are very big on her i imagine they are close in height but he has a bigger frame. you know who else is close to thom's height and has a bigger frame than her. that's right. i imagine thom's dad being built like sebastian with the same mustache. oh yeah baby i'm gonna make this house even more freudian than it is in canon.
i think thom and mars slept in the same room with two beds and once thom was in her teens they switched to thom being in their parents room until. they both started sharing the same room again.
i think after the events of the good timeline they travel the world.... they know when all of these shows are gonna be so they make sure they're there when they happen... holding each other as they see these things they dreamed about when they were so young... (this is not like the others i just think it's sweet.)
i make lots of jokes about the deleted scene where they go full ludacris whats your fantasy in that decrepit manor but i actually dont think it's until after the events of the good timeline that they actually name and treat what they have as that kind of intimacy. like i think they deny what it is. they treat it like a mere advancement of their lifelong closeness. i think thom is the most aware of what it is and is guilty as fuckkkk about it.
i think by extension there were moments where young mars started to treat it as what it was and thom was always like, urgently dismissive of it. mars absentmindedly singing the 'sitting in a tree' song and thom gets mad at her about it. older mars asking to do things that were more acceptable when they were young, thom denying her, mars hitting her with a 'why not?' thom knows it's wrong but mars doesn't; at the same time, thom is afraid to put words to it. this push and pull erodes over time. like i don't think they constantly bathed together, i think there was a time thom tried to stop.
we know that thom cut her hair post lola BUT i think it was mars that cut it. i think she cut it in the tub. THE tub.
