This study will require up to 4 separate visits, three of which must be on three consecutive days, to our facilities at Massachusetts General Hospital in Charlestown. The first visit will require 1.5hrs, while the second and third visits will also be between 1-2hrs. The fourth visit will require 1 hour and will be about 4 weeks after your third visit. On the first study visit, we will also ask you to complete a paper-and-pencil questionnaire and provide a urine sample. Following the assessment, we will tell you if you are eligible to proceed with the study. If you are not eligible, you will still be paid for the study visit you attended. If you are eligible, you will undergo a fear conditioning procedure during which you will receive an annoying but not painful, half-second electric current, applied to the fingers. You will undergo this procedure while viewing videos of spiders. Electrodes will be attached to the palm of your hand to record physiological responses during the procedure. On the second visit, you may or may not receive a medication called propranolol. This is the only visit during which you might receive medication. Propranolol is a non-selective beta-blocker that diminishes the effects of stress hormones, and is mainly used to treat high blood pressure. If you do receive propranolol, it will be at a low risk dose with proper screening. On the third visit, we will again place the electric shock electrodes on your fingers and the recording electrodes on your hands. We will again show you videos of spiders. During this visit, you may or may not receive electric shocks. The third and fourth visits will be similar to the second visit. You will be paid $50 for each study visit, and an additional $50 bonus for completing the study.
Am I the only one without the "new dashboard"?
