Actor!Mark says with hatred that Celine would tear his heart out. Wilford says it with love. He respects her ferocity. Adores her for it. Would be honored to have her carve his heart out, as it’s always belonged to her anyway.
Actor!Mark says he will make something beautiful in the mirror dimension, a place he tries to understand and thereby control no matter the cost. Wilford, when Abe asks him, says that the beauty in all this is to be found in it’s senselessness and chaos.
Actor!Mark “explains” things to Damien by encouraging him to try and understand them. He forces him to remember, triggers anxiety and panic, and suggests that he’s stupid for not being able to grasp everything all at once. Wilford “explains” things to Abe by helping him to accept just how fucked up and incomprehensible all that they’ve been through is. He encourages him to have fun and to stop obsessing, assures him that he’s not insane, and lets him be himself rather than trying to form him into anything for his own desires.
Dark might be Mark’s villain, but Wilford is his foil.
