Update Post - Why There Hasn’t Been Many New Pictures
Hi Everyone! Most of my blog has been other dogs (and animals) recently without many new pictures of Castiel and I’d like to address that. First off, Cas is fine. He’s doing really well and is the same happy-go-lucky dog her always is, however, we had a bit of a rough time a few weeks ago. We were on the first walk of the day, early in the morning before the weather gets too hot. As per usual, we were heading down to the local reservoir which is a few kilometers in the bush. It’s essentially used as the area’s swimming hole as there isn’t a close pool, and we live in very dry Australian heat. We let Cas off lead, as we do when we arrive and no one else is around so he can have a little swim and cool off. This time it doesn’t go so well. As he ran into the water, he started whimpering and crying so immediately we were all worried and jumped straight into action. Castiel got out of the water and it was terrifying, there was so much blood coming out of his front paw. A large piece of glass fell out of his front paw. It was bad. My sister took off her socks to tie around his upper leg and stop the blood rushing out, and my mum and I stayed with him while she ran home to get the car. (I don’t have a licence). Of course, there’s no service out there so we had to wait until we drove closer to home to call the vets who feared he had damaged his paw-pad which can take a very long time to heal, so we rushed straight into town to take him to the vets. Fortunately, it wasn’t his paw-pad that was damaged, and what had happened was that someone had smashed a glass bottle under the surface of the water, and the glass had slid up into his paw - a real ouchie. They cleaned it, sutured it, bandaged it, gave him some pain killers, and sent him home with us for rest. They gave him a cone so he wouldn’t lick his bandage off (at least for the first day) but he wasn’t too keen on that. As of a couple weeks ago his sutures came out and he was given a clean bill of health. However, it was suggested that we don’t get him groomed until early December, just so he doesn’t feel any pain from standing on that foot too long. He’s currently a shade I would not describe as white, as I feared posting pictures of him at the moment would have people assuming that I’m not caring for him properly. Thank you all for your understanding. It was a hard few weeks but I don’t think he even realised what had happened. He was wanting to go on a walk the day after the accident - and was thoroughly disappointed when he wasn’t allowed. He was given (too many) treats, and a lot of snuggles. He’s doing great now, though! And is back to his regular walk schedule. Once he is properly groomed and back to his beautiful self my posting will go back to normal.
