nancy wheeler is a vapid bitch
Billy never really liked Nancy. When he got to Hawkins he saw the way Steve Harrington looked at her and never wanted something more. And he saw the way she treated him.
He’d never hit a girl. He was an asshole but not that bad.
Friendship felt like the easiest way to get close to Steve. To get just an ounce of that love and attention from him. But he’d then put himself in a position to hear about the highs and lows of Nancy Wheeler. He’d managed to avoid Nancy for almost a month.
Then Steve insisted the three of them drive to the Halloween party together in Steve’s car. He didn’t want to go near Nancy Wheeler. But Steve gave him that look. And he spent the week complaining about how Nancy was being a bitch. Not his words. Billy just gathered the way she was acting was bitchy. So he went with them.
He’s not sure how it happened but he ended up in the bathroom with a sick Wheeler. She had punch spilled down the front of her shirt. He’d just been in there cleaning up after spitting beer all over the front of himself when she’d slammed into the room. He was surprised Steve wasn’t close behind.
She shoved past him, kneeling over the toilet. He’d never seen her disheveled like this.
“Christ Wheeler what happened to you?”
“Shut up Billy.” She was even more whiny when she was drunk. Great.
“How much did you even drink?”
“None of your business.”
“Bitchy as always.”
“Excuse me?” She had stood up then. Billy had to look down to make eye contact.
“You’re a bitch Wheeler.” He couldn’t help but smirk. He’d been holding off on saying it to her face for Steve’s sake.
“You have- no room to call me a bitch.”
“Oh I don’t? At least I accept that I’m a bitch. You drag Steve around like a burden and abandon him and you still think you’re not a bitch? Do you even love him? Because he fucking loves you, for some reason.”
Silence. He fucking knew it. He could see it in the way she looked at him. He could hear it when Steve talked about her.
“He’s not an accessory. Holy fuck Wheeler. Fuck you.” He laughed, quiet and cruel, pushing her back. He grabbed the towel hanging by the sink to wipe the water off himself and turned back to face her. “I knew you don’t deserve him. I was waiting for you to say you don’t love him but you can’t even admit that.”
He hadn’t heard the door open.
“Why do you keep him around?”
“It’s bullshit. It’s all bullshit.”
Neither of them saw Steve in the doorway of the bathroom until Nancy tried shoving past Billy to leave.
“You don’t love me?”
Nancy didn’t even deny it. She just left. Leaving Billy and Steve in the bathroom.
“Steve-”
“I think I wanna be alone right now.”
“Do you want me to drive you home?”
He could tell when Steve was building up to crying. His eyes would get all glossy and his lip would tremble. He’s only cried in front of Billy once and it was because he slipped at the quarry and fell on his ass. They were drunk then too. He hated to see him upset.
“Yes please.”
