Tiktok is arguing about whether it's possible to read a book every day rn and it's is crazy because 99% of the people who read 300 books this year probably comprehended less than half of them.
And I'm willing to bet that the majority of these people were the "good* readers" (*fast) and Gifted kids in school, because you know what? I was ALSO a "good reader" and a Gifted kid and I was ALSO raised believing that as long as I read fast, I was a good reader! And therefore superior than people who read less than me.
I have no doubt that people can 'read' a book every day. However, none of those people consider that just because you CAN read a book every day, doesn't mean you should! You're not thinking about those books at all, you're skimming the paragraphs and skipping half the words, you're not giving yourself any time to consider the themes or plot or characters before you move into the next book.
So yeah, I'm sure you made your eyes scan 400 pages a day this year. But I don't believe that you actually read and comprehended those books.
